Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text A traineeship abroad offers young people the opportunity to acquire professional competences and develop skills crucial for their labour market integration. But for many of Europe’s young people and small and medium companies, this type of mobility is still not a realistic opportunity. Only a small group reaps the benefits of these mobilities and some groups, such as young people at risk are particularly under-represented. The overall aim of the ‘Mobility Coach’ project was to motivate these young people to participate in a learning mobility as well as to support companies with hosting them as trainees. The project partners developed training modules for the training instructors of a company so that they will be able to integrate the incoming trainees optimally into the work process of the company. After having finished the project period, the training modules are available for all interested companies and vocational schools in the form of a digital guide.
Learning mobility is one of the main strategic priorities of the EU. The Europe 2020 strategy sets ambitious objectives for smart, inclusive and sustainable growth. Quality VET, successful labour market integration and more mobility of young people are key to unleashing all young people’s potential and achieving these objectives. To reach the 75% employment target for the population (20-64 years), the transition of young people to the labour market needs to be improved. Learning mobility in the form of a traineeship abroad is an important way in which young people can strengthen their employability, acquire prof. competences and develop skills crucial for their labour market integration. However, only a very small group of apprentices and small and medium companies benefit from this opportunity. Young people at risk are particularly under-represented.
The overall aim of the ‘Mobility Coach’ project was to create a mobility strategy built upon successful mobility support elements from three innovative projects and supplemented by the present project. This strategy was built on 2 pillars: the 1st pillar is focused on the outgoing trainee and their teachers, trainers & mentors and the 2nd pillar is focused on the support of the incoming trainee and the support & the preparation of the hosting companies (esp. SMEs). In order for this strategy to be successfully implemented, we need ‘Mobility Coaches’ who will act as the pivotal point for teachers, trainers, mentors, trainees and companies (esp. SMEs) by conveying the different training and support modules to them and through that enabling successful learning mobility experiences for all sides. A Mobility Coach curriculum and a ‘tool box’ consisting of the everyday tools the coach will need to perform his function and is now available.
The consortium was a diverse partnership of organisations from across Europe representing different facets of the VET sector with a common concern with young people at risk.
In the project, several innovative elements of three projects “Key to mobility”, “Be Competent, Be Sapient” and “Intent” were combined, adapted and further developed to form a qualification module “Mobility Coach”. After finishing the training curriculum of Mobility Coach the training was transferred to all project partners and will be ultimately transferred across Europe.
Now, after finishing the project, the whole training with profile, curriculum and toolbox can be downloaded from the webseite www.coach4mobility.net. The training was developed from essential elements of the transfer projects, a survey with companies in all partner countries and a comparison of the mobility strategies of all partner countries as well as in dependence on the eight European competences. First we developed a profile with the description of competences and learning outcomes as the basis of the training programme which was tested and refined in an international workshop in September 2013 and 2014 in national workshops in each partner country.
All products had been presented in the final conference and are now available online on our website www.coach4mobility.net.
