Marketing Text Trainees from the Lüneburger Heide gain professional experience in the wintersports region of the Austrian Alpes.
Apprentices from the hospitality and hotel business, trainee cooks and tourism and leisure agents completed a nine-week internship over the winter months in various family-operated hotels in Zell am See in Austria.
Such an exchange eases the burden on the businesses providing vocational training in Germany since the winter months are usually not very busy. For the trainees it is an excellent opportunity to gain professional experience in a foreign country already during their apprenticeship. It strengthens them in their personal development and improves their intercultural competence. The Austrian businesses participating in the exchange receive support during their high season.
Many preparatory meetings were held in the run-up, addressing questions regarding financial support through the Leonardo da Vinci programme, the participating Austrian businesses, expectations on both sides (trainees and the Austrian businesses), behavior and manners, Austrian food, coffee specialties, conflict management training and how to deal with homesickness, etc.
When the trainees returned home, under professional supervision, in one week they had to make up for the lessons they had missed at their vocational schools. The exchange ended with a final meeting of all the participants where they reflected on their experience in Austria, exchanged views, discussed their expectations and if they were met, difficulties they encountered and they drew conclusions which could be helpful for the next group.
