A training to get knowledge on the physics and working principle of organic thin film devices (organic light emitting diodes and organic solar cells).

Organic thin film (OTF) devices find their applications as organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic solar cells (OSCs). Low cost fabrication processes and the tunability of the bandgap by choosing appropriate molecules make them particularly interesting as an alternative route to classical semiconductor device technology. Applications are especially of interest for mechanically flexible devices.
This module gives a short introduction to the physics and working principle of organic thin film devices (OLEDs, OSCs), their materials and architecture and the typical fabrication processes. The fabrication method of spin coating generally used for applying the photo resist in semiconductor devices is explained with main technical details, enabling the learner to prepare himself for beginning efficiently practical laboratory work in the field of organic thin film devices.

Result Being able to manage the set-up of basic laboratory equipment for prototype design of Organic Thin Film Devices. Able to decide on the adjustment of spin coating parameters for improving thin film homogeneity. Draw conclusions from device characteristics.
