Project Number AT/12/LLP-LdV/VETPRO/158059
Project Type Mobility - Professionals in Vocational Education and Training VETPRO
Individual Participation Not possible
The project aims at the professional development of headmasters in Upper Austrian technical and vocational schools and colleges for engineering (HTL) by enhancing their foreign language skills and competencies in English.
The target group, which has already participated in an annual language in-service training programme in Austria for several years, will now get the opportunity of applying English as a foreign language in a native language environment (Northern Ireland).
The content of this initiative will comprise language activities, company visits and contacts to further educational providers in order to discuss the transition from initial education to working life in the UK and to learn about the strategies of recruiting technicians for jobs of the future.
The project activities comprised language training and application, company visits and contacts to further educational providers in order to discuss the transition from initial education to working life in the UK and to learn about the strategies of recruiting technicians for jobs of the future.
Moreover, the organisers facilitated an opportunity for an exchange of issues of school management and experience between head-teachers in Upper Austria and Northern Ireland, which has lead to further plans concerning contacts, possible partnerships and probably to a return visit or mobility project submitted by the NI partner.
The achieved outcomes are an improvement in foreign language skills as well as the establishment of contacts for further partner activities. In addition, the participants developed a deeper understanding of the vocational systems in the UK and could analyse the job requirements and conditions of enrolment for the alumni of their colleges. Furthermore, the proposed mobility prepared the headmasters for the implementation of CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) in the new innovative curricula in Austrian Higher Technical Colleges (HTL).
