Title KEY compétences FOR Aidants familiaux
Project Number 2011-1-FR1-LEO05-24461
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Identification/enhancement of key competences and complementary skills training for caregivers and home care services (HCS) employees (Home Care Services – Home help), including people from immigration, to help their employability.
Transfer of basic teaching methods and tools to restore personal and professional confidence of these publics.
Summary The aim of the Leonardo TOI project KEYFORA was to transfer an innovative method for the identification of key competences, especially on the basis of European standards and the acquisition of complementary skills by the target public of the project, that is to say, caregivers and home care services employees, including people from a migrant background, in order to promote their employability.
Key competences are one of the challenges to the success of the 2020 targets as regards employment and training (Copenhagen objectives). As such, many studies had been initiated. All European countries have committed individual initiatives and developed programs to identify key competences.
It appeared that these skills were necessary to the project targeted public who, for most of them, suffered from a situation of professional isolation and a real complex about their skills.
The project had developed steps, methods and innovative tools on key competences: on one hand, fitted to profiles and specificities of these groups, differing from methods and learning tools usually available. On the other hand, enabling a true personal and professional “reassurance” which was missing to them.
The partnership had tested and finalized simple and fun tools allowing identification of the key competences owned by beneficiaries, contributing to their personal and professional development.
To do so, the partnership had worked on the following transversal competences: communication, responsibilities at work, problem solving and teamwork
These tools were disseminated and adjusted by all partners.
Finally, the aim of the KEYFORA project was to create a “toolbox” to identify the applicant’s strengths and weaknesses, enabling to determine the process to achieve and be prepared for working life. The project beneficiaries, family carers and paid care workers, despite their lack of qualifications, were able to know their chances for professional mobility taking into consideration their key competences, transversal skills for all businesses and jobs.
Utilization and distribution of results

material for open learning
Tools, methods and guides developed within the project KEYFORA enable identification and acquisition of key competences by family carers and paid care workers for their employability.
The results of this project can therefore be usefully used by the family carers, job-seekers and workers in care sector for dependent persons, including people from a migrant background.
Implementation of a transnational common framework
The aim of the user handbook for tools about key competences in a professional situation was to enable training stakeholders (vocational training centres, employment centres, skill certification centres) and beneficiaries (volunteer and professional home carers) to appropriate:
an analytical tool to check acquired competences
and a methodological and educational tool to strengthen basic key competences in the health care sector.
Transfer of an innovative method for the identification and the measurement of eight key competences
The handbook “to develop key competences for better employability” was intended to training stakeholders; it aimed to help to implement activities to develop or to acquire key competences based on creative teaching methods.
Transfer procedure guide
Within the framework of tools transfer and before organising training sessions, Keyfora partners had decided to organise transfer of these tools within their organisations based on the user handbook for tools. It was intended to teaching staff and/or to family carers volunteers or employees involved in the Keyfora project scope.
Partners had determined that this action was prior to training activities which were held between January and June 2013 in each partner country.
Training modules that have been implemented by KEYFORA project partners and tested with more than 200 people (family carers, paid care workers, unemployed) focused on four transversal compétences : communication, responsibility at work, problem solving and teamwork.
The KEYFORA manual - Key Competences for (family) carers was designed to transfer, distribute, adapt quickly experiment and lessons learned through the project KEYFORA and to transpose to other EU countries facing the issue of care for dependent persons. Thus, the guide addresses issues of planning, organization, conduct and evaluation of training modules for the recovery / acquisition of key competences by family carers and / or paid care workers.
