Lernsituationen für die Ausbildung mit 'embedded systems'
Bei dem geplanten Projektergebnis handelt es sich um eine Plattform für internetgesteuerte Versuche aus den Bereichen Robotik, Mechatronik, eingebettete Systeme und Mikrocontrollersysteme.Die innovative Plattform ermöglicht es auf reale Versuchsstände über das Internet zuzugreifen und diese dadurch sehr einfach in der Ausbildung, unterstützt durch kollaboratives Lernen einzusetzen.
Studierende und internationale Studierendenteams können die definierten Lernsituationen mit diesen 'remote labs' durchführen und so in einem international gestützten Umfeld Erfahrung sammeln. Das ganze System baut auf verschiedene Internettechnologien auf und setzt diese gezielt ein.
The aim of the project is contribution to raising the level of vocational education students and continuous education of professional workers in broad field of engineering domains, but specially in ICT and embedded systems by transferring the innovative study concept, namely Learning Situations from Germany to Nordic Europe region (mainly Estonia, but also to Finland and later Sweden), by adopting the product to Estonian needs and bringing them to Internet environment.
The aim is planned to archive by carrying out following activities:
- Performing deep analysis of current industrial situation, study methods and student behavior in target sector
- Adopting the Learning Situation according to acquired knowledge
- Establishing the Remote Lab Centers (the runtime environment for Learning Situations)
- Bringing the Learning Situations to e-learning environment - Full piloting of the solution in Estonia and Finland, light piloting in Germany and Sweden. All listed activities are on the frame of professional project management and financial surveillance. The dissemination is continuous process starting on the very beginning of the project and continuing after the official end, by following the developed Future Strategy document.
Embedded systems are in everyday life and there is a frantic need of well-educated developers, operators and programmers. This field itself is in a big change because the borders of pure ICT and embedded system are fusing and according to this process the skilled workforce is even more needed, with focus on both sub-domains. It is important that ICT education will become more and more to real systems education, instead of just computer software development (in most vocational schools curricula these two domains are still separated). This application addresses to the lack of skilled worker in ICT, by building bridge for simple and logical study process for using ICT for controlling and understanding real word processes and situations.
Reason of the project
With the project NetLab we are focusing on the fact that currently there is a lack of skilled worker in ICT and embedded system sector due the rapid growth of this domain. The trend shows constant growth of the gap between industry need and available skilled workforce, specially due the rise of Asian manufacturers and engineers and competition with Europe. Several studies in Estonia (and whole Europe) point out that the engineering fields are not the first choice of young people, however the engineering skills and ICT field itself are one of the key knowledge of European including Estonian economy growth in a long perspective.

Product information The main outcomes of the project are adopted Learning Situations which can be used either in conventional learning environment or over the distance in e-environment. Practical aids for ICT and embedded system study for vocational and continuous education supported by the universal e-platform and direct links to industrial needs. The long term outcomes are the rise of competence of new and practicing engineers and the contemporary learning tools. To come along with significant better vocational education in the end there will be a better position of European companies (including SME-s) in global competition.
