Summary The idea lot4eng.com (Logistics Open Training for Engineering Competence) has been inspired by the shortage of logistics engineers, which has already been and is yet to be faced by many countries across Europe. The objective of this project is to enhance the engineering and managerial skills of employees at risk of developing a competence gap in the area of logistics, namely the employees of logistics, manufacturing, distribution enterprises, coaches, trainers and vocational trainers, to be accomplished by affording access to high quality e-learning materials. The selection of such a target group has been dictated by a labour market analysis. A logistics engineer will be one of the most sought-after professions in 2020 (Newsweek, 15 Oct 2010). A lot4eng.com communication platform, complementing the existing LogisticsTube environment, will ensure creating an on-line learning and social networking environment, capable of diagnosing competence needs as they arise (as a lot4eng.com communication platform, complementing the existing LogisticsTube environment) and for providing training materials tailored to the requirements of the ever-changing job market (by transferring products developed as part of the NEDLOG project, handling managerial competencies).

In order to determine the topics of e-learning modules conducted a survey among managers of logistics, production and distribution on demand on the labor market competence. Like the study was carried out among coaches and trainers. Research related to the competence needed to conduct training with use of ICT tools.
Developed e-learning modules are published on the internet platform. With this solution, users can access online training materials at any time and place. In addition, the platform created a tool to allow the identification of competence gaps to test their knowledge, skills and competencies in the context of the needs of the labor market. Product information Products developed within the framework of the lot4eng.com project can be divided into 2 groups: 15 e-learning modules in compliance with the SCORM standard and the Internet platform in line with the Web 2.0 standard, bringing together coaches, instructors, the managers of logistics, manufacturing and distribution enterprises and persons willing to take part in the training. The project will deliver training resources in the form of e-learning, responsive to the needs of the labour market. On top of that, an Internet platform i.e. lot4eng.com platform hosted by the LogisticsTube environment, will afford an opportunity to assess both e-learning modules (in terms of their relevance and visual appeal) and the overall functioning of the service. The application of the above mentioned technology will enable the creation of an on-line and social networking environment, effectively bridging identified competence gaps.
