Marketing Text The International Journal of Marine Design (IJMD) provides a forum for the reporting and discussion on design practice and technical issues associated with aesthetic design. The full spectrum of marine design from small craft to superyachts, including commercial and specialist vessels, will be examined. The IJMD is published as Part C of the Transactions of The Royal Institution of Naval Architects.
Contributions in the form of papers and reviews on the following aspects of aesthetic marine design are invited:
Design visualisation (including design methodologies, design practice, innovative concepts, design analysis tools, computer aided design), TOI (Transfer of Innovation) from other industry sectors).
Ergonomics and domotics (including UCD (User Centred Design) methodologies, emotional design methodologies, TOI (Transfer of Innovation) from other industry sectors).
Sustainability in construction (including one-off construction and series production issues, facility design, materials, joining technologies, reconstructions and rebuilds of historic craft).
Sustainability in operation (including, equipment, results of sea trials, results of instrumentation, TOI (Transfer of Innovation) from other industry sectors).
Implementation of regulations in the design process (including international, national, and regional regulatory frameworks, classification, codes of practice, rating rules).
Virtual work/learning environments (including, CPD for marine designers, networking opportunities for innovation and exchange, virtu al work environments to facilitate multi-disciplinary, multinational teams).
Target group Marine industry professionals and aspiring designers in other market sectors.
A free online journal containing the following sections :-
Editorial Introduction will provide an overview of the journal with particular emphasis on the collection of papers that comprise each issue.
Papers may introduce new theory or evaluate existing theory. They can describe experimental or novel design practices. Papers presenting design case studies will report on new or existing techniques, including design and production. Papers may also provide literary reviews which appraise and evaluate existing designs or published work. All papers are peer refereed.
Design reviews will provide findings, trends, procedures, applications, interim results, etc. Design reviews are refereed as for papers, but due allowance will be made for their immediate nature.
Invited articles by marine designers will give personal views on the views on design trends and the future of the maritime industry.
Comments on papers and design reviews are welcomed and will normally be published in the first available issue of the IJMD following that in which the paper was published. Discussion may be continued in subsequent issues, at the discretion of the Editor. Authors will be invited to respond to published comment.
Area of application The journal is used to help inform designers as to the latest trends, designs and technologies that are pushing the marine industry into a new technological era.
