Although the latest Eurostat data pointed at the increased female participation in the labour market (Eurostat: statistics in focus, 57/2010), at the same time, we found out that nearly one woman in five aged 25-64 was outside the labour market, half of them due to family reasons (Eurostat newsrelease: 185/2010-07/12/2010). Among the latest employment trends, we could observe an increase in the proportion of part-time employment, for men and women alike. The prevalence of part-time employment among women is linked to the unequal distribution of the caring responsibilities between men and women.
Within the framework of the described trends, as well as, referring to the Medium-term forecast up to 2010 „Skills supply and demand in Europe“ (Cedefod:2010), calling to secure an increase in labour market participation, in particular women, and adapt the potential of the inactive (in particular, women, whose qualifications are surpassing those of men), by making a more effective use of existing skills and encouraging skills development, the project aims at encouraging women participation in labour market by promoting the teleworking option, providing with the essential transversal skills and key competences on teleworking, at the same time, aiming at promoting the teleworking option at institutional level, as workplace flexibility programme and its potential benefits to the company.
As the final outcome, the results of the previous “Telework for the life-work reconciliation of Spanish women” (El teletrabajo en la conciliación de la vida familiar y laboral de las mujeres españolas, ref. TSI-040100-2008-10) project has been transferred and extended at EU level, converting the Virtual Environment – Resources Center (developed in the previous project), into an authentic training repository , permitting regular updates through web 2.0 resources and enriched with EU perspective and a great range of instruments and resources, collected from the different national experiences.
The partnership of the project fell into 7 highly experienced partners: UGT Euskadi (ES) (project promoter), INVESLAN (ES) (project coordinator), BEST (AT), EEDE (EL), INFOART (BG), GINGERBREAD (UK) AND INCSMPS (RO).
The project was designed to approach two direct target groups: women on the one hand, and managers and human resources directors of the companies, on the other.
The specific objectives can be summarised as follows:
1. To extend the concept of teleworking at European level. To achieve this, a comparative analysis on flexible workplace and teleworking policies in partner countries was carried out, drawing some recommendations for future actions.
2. To take advantage of the main outcomes of the previous project (carried out in Spain), to develop an auto-diagnostic tool for key
competences, necessary for teleworking, as well as, to design a training itinerary of transversal skills for teleworking that can be used by managers and human resources directors to prepare them to design and implement flexible workplace management policies. To accomplish this objective, an e-learning platform prototype has been developed and was validated during between June and August 2013. The VLE is now accessible online to make it easier to access, constituting a meeting point to develop the necessary competences to telework.

The main products result of this two years project are the following ones:
- Report: "Lessons learnt from Spanish experience", which identified the main elements to be transfered from the previous national project to the Women In European project.
- A "Methodological Tools Dossier", which provided a collection of research methods to be applied during the research stage.
- Report: "Women in Teleworking (Comparative EU Experience)", which described the current situation of teleworking implementation in each partner country and identified which are the needs to enhance it. These needs were used to define the training itinerary and the Women In platform.
- "Conclusions and recommendations for actions to be taken to promote teleworking and women participation and mobility" (extracted from the report "Women in Teleworking").
- Self-diagnostic tool (online questionnaire to detect the competences needed for teleworking). It was developed in the previous project and has been updated accordingly to Women In´s WP3 findings (report: "women in teleworking, EU experience").
- Training itinerary, including 6 modules, providing women teleworkers with transversal skills for teleworking. It was prepared according to the needs identified in the report "women in teleworking: EU experience"
- Report on good practices, collecting examples of telework implementation cases.
- Manual for human resources directors and managers to design and implement telework policies.

- Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). This is the main product of the project, available in all partners languages. It compiles the different resources mentioned above making them available on-line and providing interaction with some of them (as the self-diagnostic tool, which enables the user to get inmediate results regarding the assesment of her/his competences to telework). On top of that, the greatest point of the VLE is that allows interaction among the users, who can interact as in a social network creating groups, starting debates and discussions, or sharing their own resources.
- Leaflets, pens or bags with the image of the project have also been produced and disseminated.
