The project Education for „Career Counsellors around Europe “ focuses on up to date topic of career counselling and quality of career counsellors. It follows the project “Current European Career Counselling” where most of the partners of ECCE project cooperated on the topic of their long-time interest. They discovered the insufficient status of education for career counsellors in their countries. This led them to ECCC which aims to contribute to the development of quality career counselling services in Europe. The specific aims are:
- to complete missing quality vocational training for counsellors in CZ, DE, PL and ES,
- to adapt an existing high quality training programme for counsellors according to the needs of participating countries and regarding the expert experience of the partners,
- to prepare trainers for this new adapted programme who will be able implement the adapted training modules in their countries and thus support increase of the number of qualified counsellors,
- to test the programme,
- to prepare the final version of the training programme and the connected materials,
- to inform professionals about new training.
Needs for education are proved by many analyses. The quality service of career counselling leads to fulfilment of European strategies for optimising the capabilities and the potential of all citizens. The project is realized by qualified consortium. The applicant coordinator, Aspekt, CZ, has got experience with project management and career counselling is its main issue. GAP, GE is experienced in training, counselling, project management and is top EU expert on gender topic. Their region is interested in improvement of training for their counsellors. Spanish partner, Espora and Polish one, Fundacja Rozwoju Ekonomii Społecznej have provided counselling and run EU projects too. Akershus University College has already developed and successfully run the complex study programme for career counsellors in Norway, has cooperated on other EU project and is willing to solve the troubles with insufficient education by the transfer of their programme to partners´organizations and their countries. There are two more partners to support it: Dr. M. Benesch Unternehmensberatung, AUT, lecturer with experience from training of trainer in international groups, helps to gain the training skills needed for implementing and OR Counselling, NO, brings the expert knowledge of working with drop outs and his view will be considered when adapting the programme.
The outcomes will be: new training course for career counsellors in CZ, DE, ES and PL with study materials (e.g. in CZ there is no overall study material for career counsellors, only books in English are available). Both of them will reflect the feedback from counsellors. The project will secure highly qualified lectures for the training and training material to support them. There will be a website where the documents will be at disposal.
The project runs from 1.10.2011 till 30.9.2013 within the Leonardo da Vinci programme, Transfer of Innovation.
The specific aims are: to complete missing quality vocational training for counsellors in CZ, DE, PL and ES, to adapt a tried and tested training programme for counsellors according to the needs of participating countries and regarding the expert experience of the partners, e. g. gender point of view, to prepare such trainers for this new adapted programme who will be able implement the adapted training modules in their countries and thus support increase of the number of qualified counsellors, to test the programme, to prepare the final version of the training programme and the connected materials, to inform professionals about this new training.
The outcomes will be: a high-quality comprehensive training course for career counsellors in CZ, DE, ES and PL with study materials

program or curricula
The programme consists of two modules. First one deals with theory of career counselling. Some of the theory was developed by Mr. Inglar and some is based on different theoretical approaches. It introduces particularly strategies and techniques of career counseling, theories of choices of vocation, theories of career – sociodynamic and constructivistic counselling, group counseling of one client, different types of tests, the structure of a session in career guidance counseling, realistic practice of conversations (the students observe each other in practical work), career counseling in an international perspective and multicultural perspective.
The second module introduces career counselling in a learning organization, developmental work in the work plan, digital tool of my career plan, supportive conversation, introduction of centers of career counselling, career counseling for international groups, challenges and ideas, networking and working in teams, relation to the statistics.
Within the programme there exist study materials which deal with theoretical and practical questions of career counselling. Namely development of career counselling as a science, strategies and techniques in career counselling (Holland, Super,Krumboltz, Peavy), materials about how to understand and develop career counselling in an organization, role of a career counsellor, constructivist career counselling and mapping.
The fact that this programme efficiently connects theoretical basis with practical knowledge is very unique and such programme is missing in partner´s countries. The complexity of this study programme is the main reason for the transfer. This study programme deals with aspects of career counselling which are not being introduced to career counsellors in partners countries even though there is a need of having career counselors acknowledged and educated in them.
Partners strongly feel the need of improving quality of provided career counselling in their countries. This can be secured only by proper and complex education for career counsellors and all the partners are convinced that this study programme in its complexity will cover this need.
Some parts of the programme are designed for special conditions in Norway (e.g. about system of career counselling services), so the programme cannot be transferred as a whole without any changes. It will be adapted to particular conditions of each partner´s country. When adapting it, our partners will bring their unique knowledge of various target groups into the process, especially gender view will, all these views will be regarded. All the adjustments will be approved of by Mr. Inglar so the quality will be secured. The important thing about parts which cannot be transferred is that there will be a frame of what to look for as far as information in partner countries. AUC will certify the trainers who will be able and who will have the adapted programme – course to train many other counsellors in their countries.
