Title Vocational, multilateral training for the European job market
Project Number DE/10/LLP-LdV/PLM/282137
Project Type Mobility - people in the labour market PLM
Individual Participation Not possible
Marketing Text The participants from the Dr. Buhmann School receive a high-quality, specialised education in business studies and foreign languages – the basis for a career in international management. With the objective of extending their specialised, foreign-language and personal competence, the participants majoring in international management and international marketing complete internships abroad lasting several months, for which we prepare them intensively. Understandable scepticism on the part of the participants prior to their stay abroad changes during the internships to a motivating positive experience thanks to the professional organisation and exceptionally good supervision. The internship shows the participants that they are in a position to implement acquired knowledge and gives them a great deal of self-confidence in their own skills, as well as intercultural competence.
The participants of this mobility project are currently completing their further education, and will qualify as state-certified business economists (Graduate in Business Administration) in their chosen specialism after having successfully completed the training as Management Assistant for Foreign Languages and Correspondence, majoring in international management or marketing at the Dr. Buhmann School. An integral part of the further educational course was a five-month internship, which took place from 01.07.2010 -31.12.2010. Host institutions of this project are New College Durham in Great Britain, St. Charles College in Spain, as well as Lycée Tézenas du Montcel in France.
Parallel to their job in their internship company, the participants commence with compiling a project on a theme related to their chosen specialism in international management or marketing which is essential for qualifying as a state-certified business economist. Those participating in the project finish it during the taught part of their further education at the school. The companies are often involved in this project work, making company data available for the practical part of the project. The participants are in regular contact with their supervisors while working on their projects.
The aim of the internship is to apply acquired theoretical knowledge in practice while using the respective national language. Of utmost priority are personal encounters with work processes in foreign companies, as well as the mentality and communication behaviour of those in the companies, that is to say company culture. During the stay, alongside the further development of diverse competences, for example language skills, decision-making, responsibility, and methodological skills, own initiative and independence of those benefiting from the internship are increased. All these factors increase the competitive chances of the participants on the European job market in comparison with other job candidates who lack practical experience abroad.
