Title Challenging Differences to make the Difference
Project Number 2010-1-PT1-LEO03-04626
Project Type Mobility - Professionals in Vocational Education and Training VETPRO
Individual Participation Not possible
“Challenging Differences to make the Difference” is a project that seeks to promote the development of skills, sharing and transfer of good practices between teachers/trainers and other educational staff, in the ambit of education for equal opportunities and non-discriminatory access to learning tools, improvement of an active citizenship by encouraging volunteering in the school community, in order to improve a strong understanding of differences, promotion of tolerance, spirit of solidarity and respect for different social and cultural realities.
The participants of this project are teachers, trainers and other EPRALIMA professionals working in the scope of education. The project will last 16 months, establish partnerships with 9 institutions, from 7 European countries and is based on the mobility of 20 participants, from EPRALIMA. Each flow will last 2 weeks, during the period of March/April of 2011.
“Challenging Differences to make the Difference” seeks to address certain needs/constraints detected on an institutional assessment of training needs, such as the lack of competences of the trainers to work in transversal development areas related to equality of opportunities and social responsibility, as well as the inexistence of support and tools for an efficient work. Believing that only the effective practice of these competencies will promote the exercise of citizenship, this mobility aims to provide the acquisition of methodologies to organize activities in the school environment, which will encourage support and volunteering, and, on the other hand, will provide the school with new measures to improve an equal access to learning tools for all students.
The project also seeks to address innovative ways to work transversal citizenship competencies.
In 2009/2010, 68% of EPRALIMA’s students came from disadvantaged social and economical backgrounds that justified social support measures, level 1 and 2, in which 45% received total support (level 1). On the other hand, the school also has some students with Special Educational Needs. This situation shows that the existing asymmetries require awareness and qualified intervention by the school and the trainers/teachers.
After the mobility we aim to achieve the following results:
Participants must acquire new competencies and good practices to promote equal opportunities and voluntarism on educational context;
- Develop linguistic, social e personal skills;
- Each participant must write a report on the acquired experience;
- The reports will be compiled and published as a Good Practice Guide, that will provide support to other professionals, as well as internal training;
- Planning a school project, in partnership with local / regional institutions, in order to promote and encourage students to perform voluntary work, creating the volunteering week / month;
- Organization of a seminar, open to the local community, to disseminate the experiences and practices acquired.
