Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Country CZ-Czech Republic
Marketing Text In the Czech Republic the organic farmer profession is not included in the official cataloque of job positions. If you are a farmer who wants to change his or her farm to organic farming you can attend few courses organized by agricultural institutions. However organic farmers still represent a minority in the Czech agricultural system. Despite of the fact the number of interested people keeps growing every year. Many of them get the knowledge and qualification abroad, in the UK, German, Austria, the countries with advanced and developed system of organic farming. E-Ecofarming is an e-learning re-training course which tries to cover a gap in the educational offer for farmers.
The Copenhagen process gave priority to the development of an open and flexible European Qualification Framework (EQF) improving transparency of qualifications and competences. The EQF was adopted in 2008.
• The highly successful Leonardo da Vinci pilot project “EcoJob-AP - Training on European standards for ecological agricultural production” has anticipated this development in 2006 and created an e-based Learning management environment for acquiring knowledge and skills for ecological agrarian production (organic farming). It developed modules for level 3 (for eco-farmers) and for level 5 (for eco-experts) according to the requirements of the EQF. The project ended in 2008.
The specific objectives of this proposal are to transfer the results of the EcoJob-AP project into three European languages where this standardized training concept hitherto does not exist: to the Czech Republic, to Austria and to Slovenia, and to produce these versions with linguistic and socio-economic adaptations that refer to the specific situations in these countries.
The on-line courses for Eco-farmers and Eco-experts are primarily intended to add the organic components to an existing course on agriculture. They do not pretend to be a complete course on their own. Learners should ideally have Level 3 or 4 qualifications in agriculture or horticulture.
In the case of the Eco-farmer modules, the content is linked to the competences required by organic farmers to produce in line with standards and principles appropriate to their enterprises.
The Eco-expert modules are targeted at extension workers and advisers working to help farmers produce and market organic produce.
The course levels are compatible with the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) at EQF Level 3 (Eco-farmer course) and at EQF level 5 (Eco-expert course).

Product information The main products of the e-Ecofarming project are two e-learning courses for EQF level 3 Organic farmer and EQF level 5 Counsellor in organic farming. In order to satisfy the needs of busy and hard working farmers a very simply structured e-learning course based on both text and audiovisual files is very suitable because it saves their time and does not require lots of travelling. On the other hand it requires careful a didactic approach. The course has to consist of a very simple structure of modules and files, without complicated ICT features which might demotivate the farmers. e-Ecofarming offers up-to-date information about basic areas of organic farming together with useful interactive tools such as units in mp3 format, case studies, field homework and inspiring videos.
