Title 50+ Citizens’ participation in creation of their lives - SAGE+
Project Number 2009-1-SK1-LEO05-00786
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text The SAGE+ project was aimed to investigate the position of the 50+ population from the point of view of their greater mobilization in society. The main focus of interest in the project was on creating necessary conditions for the activity of a specially-trained worker – “a participation facilitator- PF“ (in Slovak „sociálny konzultant 50+“) – who should not only work for the 50+ age group but also with the 50+ age group so that s/he is capable of communicating the problems and requirements of the group to relevant institutions and at the same time motivating them to adopt a more active approach to life.
SAGE+ project main idea was to transfer the approach and products of the SAGE project to Slovakia. The SAGE+ project responded to demographic change and low social and economic activity of the 50+ citizens by the creation
of competency based training and a set of assessment methods for organisations and individual citizens who work towards meeting the needs of people in their mid or later life – 50+ citizens in Slovakia. The main aim of SAGE+ project was to transfer (geographically, culturally, and in terms of language) training solutions for people to work as participation facilitators with people aged 50 and over. This has brought increased knowledge, skills and understanding about the needs of people aged 50+, a chance for organizations to shape their services to meet the needs of an ageing society, a mechanism that leads to the empowerment of people in their mid and later life. The SAGE+ project consortium included Volkshilfe Steiermark, Austria and TREBAG, Hungary, and 5 Slovak partners: TU Kosice (project applicant), three NGOs - ASTRA, C.A.R.D.O., CPK Levoca Slovakia, and one local public administration body - town Spisska Nova Ves. The consortium was built with the special attention to guarantee the successful implementation: two foreign partners worked also in the SAGE project, and 5 Slovak partners come from 4 different places in order to disseminate SAGE+ project products and outputs widely from the sector, culture, and geographical point of views. The main products of the project are: State of the arts report, How to train in SAGE+ course - Handbook for trainers, SAGE+ 5 module blended course - 1st prototype and finalized version ready for national accreditation. The project impact: Enhanced knowledge, skills and competence of 50+ citizens, public officers, workers at interfaces between senior citizens and decision makers, volunteers, public administrators, trainers. The SAGE+ project not only has widened the cross-sector and international cooperation in the field of building age integrated society, but also has contributed to creation of favorable environment for senior citizens, and better awareness about the need for sector and international cooperation in this field.
