Marketing Text The indisputably most substantial work was done adapting the Estonian National curriculum for care workers to the apprenticeship training system – 80/20, i.e. 80% of learning on-the-job and 20% learning in the college (theory). This was achieved by numerous consultations and roundtable discussions of the Estonian partners, the college and employers.
Description The result is a functioning curriculum divided into four modules (four semesters), that can be fulfilled separately and in a flexible timeframe due to the individual study plans, which take into account previously obtained competences and education. The challenge was also for the on-the-job trainers to be qualified to assess the apprentices and their performance. The project organized a 60-hour training for on-the-job trainers to enhance their competences as supervisor and evaluators.
Target group Employers/appretices/schools.
Result Thanks to the monumental work of not only the project staff of every partner, but the stupendous effort of the the on-the-job trainers and pilot group students, all of the students who initially started studies during the project also finished the first module of the curriculum. They all are also ready to continue their studies to acquire the vocational qualification of a care worker in Estonia. The apprentices/students received knew knowledge, competences, support from their organizations and other students, which made them feel more self-confident. From the students' point of view, learning in the workplace was time-saving and economical, a familiar environment and friendly and helpful supervisors and colleagues were helpful. The best on-the-job trainers for care workers are qualified care workers, but also nurses acted as supervisors. On-the-job trainers were satisfied that they had the chance to update their knowledges, cooperation improved and some work-techniques received critical evaluation.
Area of application Apprenticeship training for care workers.
