Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text In many European countries the integration of young people into the labour market is stil facing a lot of difficulties. Therefore alternative ways and additional help modules are required in addition to the standardized elements of the educational systems. The project "go4job" aims to develop a Europaen platform on occupational choice "from young persons for young persons". The pedagogic use of virtual communication elements like wikis, blogs or podcasts, which are of high value to the target-group, is in the focus of the project. It is being used to increase the interest in "occupational choice and apprenticeship application" and to intensify the "peer-communication" in that matter.
An expert report, which was published by the European Commission at the beginning of 2010, comes to the result, that Europeans need to orientate their competences more and better to the demands of the labour market. In order to do so it is necessary to build "pedagogic bridges" between the educational system and the labour market, which helps to get more detailed information on occupations and their current and future requirements. This is one of the goals the project is aiming at.
Additional challenges concerning the didactic and methodological realisation result from the special job orientaion on young persons with immigrant background, who significantly fail more often than their native peers in the transition from school to work. The reasons are manifold. Some of the reasons are a narrow view of of the jobs and training that young people would like to learn and would practice and thus apply to. In addition to that the application strategies for training on the dual system being practised are not enough and cause that this group become disadvantaged. Last but not least are the missing nsocial networks that could "open the door" for these young people to the labour market.
A large number of young school leavers, especially those with a negative school results and experiences, cannot be reached through traditional counselling methods. Hier it is advisable to use other alternative counselling and motivation methods that would really reach these young people.
The internet portal "go4job" will face these challenges and pick-up methodically and medially young persons at the transition from school to work where they are, didactically speak their language and hereby motivate them, to better realize their life chances within the European society and in the European labour market. The development of the portal is based on the principle "from young persons for young persons". This will be realized by a close implementation of apprentices and their ideas in planing and realization of diverse portal modules and the production of the portal content.
"go4job" aimes to shape a "YouTobe of occupational oriention" portal, which develops dynamically and will be supported by both, schools and training companies.
Since the beginning of the project one of the main tasks was the conception and development of the portal www.go4job.de, which consists of various virtual learning modules. This new development of the portal was aiming at developing a „Jobtube“ to youth-oriented learning within a European context based on the principle: “an offer from young persons to young persons". The new concept was developed by the German partners together with all project partners. The results were presented to all partners and discussed within the transnational partner meetings. In addition to that, the new portal was presented to the “Gruppe Potenziale NRW”, co-ordinated by the Hauptstelle RAA, and discussed with the members of the group who made their own suggestions.
The portal is designed as a European "JobCity" with following learning modules:
1)”Cinema”: where the so called "jobcasts" are played, which have been produced by apprentices and give an insight to occupations, training processes and their challenges seen with young persons eyes. Additionally 3 min podcasts give hints and advices on typical questions concerning the application process and connected items.
2) "Info Point”: one gets here answers on general questions on occupational choice and the application process;
3) “Fit&Fun”: like at a fitness-center young people can check their personal potentials and train abilities like concentration or work-speed.
4) “Cafè-Europe”: invites young persons to come in and get in touch and in dialogue with peers from their own country or other European countries.
5) “Studio-Q” a kind of a Media-Workshop where one can learn how to produce own podcasts, blogs etc. and upload them to go4job portal.
As a support material for the production of jobcasts certain standards for go4job were developed and made available to all partners. These standards describe technical aspects as well as aspects related to developing of a story of a jobcast. Moreover a Project Quality Handbook was developed. This Handbook was made available to all project partners and aims at objective-oriented co-operation within the project for a better project implementation.
The project portal has been tested internally and in co-operation with the target group (Gruppe Potenziale). In this regard special evaluation questionnaires have been developed.
Different and lots of jobcasts have been already produced. In these jobcasts different occupations and other experiences or occupational aspects were described by apprentices themselves. These jobcasts were presented at transnational meetings and discussed together. Thus, it became clear which aspects have to be taken into consideration in future productions taking into consideration aspects like motivation, creativity and the target group.
The project idea as well as the portal go4job was presented at the different relevant conferences and in talks to the different network partners. The transnational partners presented also the project to their network partners in their own countries, with the aim to implement the idea of the project as well as the portal in their own networks after making the necessary cultural fitting and accommodation to their own situation. The project partners in Italy, Austria and Portugal already have the necessary experiences and contacts. They all co-operate with schools, companies and training centres.
Until the end of project the portal was continuously developed after suggestions from partner organizations. Each partner has his own page. The portal was also tested, together with project partners. Moreover it was also presented to students at lower secondary schools for more testing. After that it became free to a wider public. More jobcasts werde produced by all partners in cooperation with young prople both on occupations within the public sector as well as within private companies. Co-operation with companies as well as institutions from the public sector was also initiated and progressed. Thus it became possible to produce more content, especially jobcasts, in co-operation with apprentices at the companies and at public institutions and training institutions.
One of the main objectives of the Hauptstelle RAA NRW is the promotion of young immigrants on school to job orientation. As a project leader the Hauptstelle RAA NRW makes its resources of experienced personnel and teachers and good functioning networks available and will sustainably promote the use of new media for the promotion of young immigrants, taking the go4job portal as an example. This portal will be continuously developed by all project partners even after the project end.
The portal Go4Job became interesting to private companies as well as education institutions. In the meantime this portal is being used by private companies (see “Cinema” ) as well as public institutions, like the City of Essen and educational institutions as for example the Fachhochschule für Öffentliche Verwaltung NRW to publish their Jobcasts. The intention here is also to attract qualified trainees and personnel to be trained at these institutions. Furthermore, the portal is being used as a teaching tool by teachers and educators. The RAA networks, especially those specialized on school-to-job orientation (Arbeitskreis Schule Beruf) and the Network of Teachers with Immigrant Background in NRW, employ the Portal in their information and job orientation activities with students.
The campaign “Golden Jobstar” is going to continue until mid of June 2013. One of the aims of the campaign is to encourage young trainees to become engaged within the portal and produce their own Jobcasts. Furthermore, the professional group “Potenziale NRW” will be continuing to be involved in further developments on the portal, also in the future. The portal will thus be continuing its services and will be further used by young people on the school-to-job orientation as well as by professionals in the training and information offers.

The occupational choice portal "go4job" motivates young people to tackle more with questions of apprenticeship and occupation. Career should become a matter of interest even for those young persons, who had no professional perspective so far.
This intention was successfully realized by adressing young persons - especially with immigrant background - in an adequate way "from - for" and with the support of digital media, which have a high motivation factor to the so called "Net-generation". The portal mainly consists of podcasts, blogs and wikis on occupational choice and training matters, which have been produced by young persons on their job for young persons at school.
