Title Business Transfer Programme II
Project Number 2010-1-AT1-LEO05-02714
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
The Business Transfer Programme II (BTP II) was based on the former BTP pilot project, where a tailor-made training programme in combination with a specific Screening Tool for business successors/buyers had been designed and tested.
The transfer of the existing BTP curriculum and the Screening Tool contributed to the improvement of the skills of business successors/buyers to handle the difficulties involved in the take-over/transfer process
Business transfer is of major concern in the European Union. Almost one third of the SMEs in the European Union, approximately 690.000 businesses with about 2.8 million jobs will be faced with the succession/transfer process within the next years.
The transfer of the BTP curriculum and the Screening Tool has contributed to the improvement of the skills of business successors/buyers and transferors to handle the difficulties involved in the transfer of businesses. The screening tool is a specific technical instrument and allows a first enterprise check.
The target groups of BTP II were SMEs sub-divided into (1) family members, who want to take over an existing company within the family; (2) MBOs: employees who want to take over a company and (3) MBIs: external persons who want to take over a company.
The project partnership of BTP II consisted of 7 partners from 7 European countries: Austria, Finland, Italy, Netherland, Poland, Portugal and Sweden. All selected partners were experienced in the field of international projects, in the adult training and education area and at the aim sector.
The project contributed to the development of consistent support measures for SMEs close to the transfer process, facilitating the upcoming transfer process through increasing their business transfer related knowledge, and intensifying their preparation phase through a technical instrument/tool. Due to an adequate preparation and the awareness of a long-term planning of the transfer process, existing businesses will be maintained and contribute to strengthen the SME dominated European economy.
The two main outcomes of the previous project had been transfered to new European countries. 1. The existing training for business successors/buyers comprising six modules: Finance, Legal Aspects, Business Analysis, Marketing, Soft Skills, Human Resourse Management. It has been designed as a modern blended learning concept combining face to face trainings, project oriented methods, e-learning, individual coaching and learning from practical experience.
In addition to the training, the existing screening tool, a specific technical instrument, has been adapted, too. The screening tool is a very flexible web-based tool, time and place independent and adapted to the needs of SMEs. It consisted of two parts: detailed question catalogue including questions on the general, legal, finance, marketing, human resources, location and technical infrastructure situation of the transfered company and a benchmark data base (summarization of relevant management ratios for specific industries. This division was slightly rearranged within the follow up project BTPII.
