The YES project aims at the experimental processing and application, through their adaptation and transfer,of some of the products of the former New Hospitality Project. The YES project proposes the integration of a number of systems developed through the previous NH Project with the already familiar and widely-used instruments developed at a European level (such as the Certificate Supplement, Europass Mobility), for validation, transfer and recognition of learning
outcomes achieved in formal, informal and non formal contexts. The development of such instruments would serve to encourage the design of educational and training programmes that call for a detailed programming of learning outcomes and which would necessitate, as a reference, qualifications expressed in transferable units that can be linked to the national and European framework in use today.
The YES Project envisages:
- The up-dating of the contents of the New Hospitality Data Base, through the use of tools derived from best practises
(New Hospitality Research Kit). This would also be necessary for the applicability and pertinence of the geographical
- The application of the contents of the New Hospitality Data Base to extend its use to a new, spectrum of beneficiaries
(compared to those in the former New Hospitality project), which fall, as operators and users, under the system of educational and vocational training (aged 17 to 22) and to allow the integration of the data base itself with other Europass tools besides the CV, which has already been tested;
- The mainstreaming the products as part and parcel of educational and vocational training programmes, to be used as
instruments in support of the credit transfer and recognition procedure (ECVET). In fact, the proposed adaptation also provides for a link in the Database between competences, professional profiles and the training paths that can be followedin the Partner countries.
EUROSTAT data regarding workers in the “hotel & restaurant” sector , reveal certain key elements:
• A lack of formal learning paths, which creates difficulty for workers in validating their competencies following standard
• The prevalence of non-formal learning experiences, which must become visible:
• Workers’ difficulty in interpreting their experience and competencies as a wealth to be brought forward and made
transparent. The YES-Employability Project proposal regards the definition of a common system to make competencies in the hotel
industry transparent, towards achieving a common protocol of representation of the competencies within the Europass instruments. The adoption and deployment of the instruments proposed by the YES Project is an important step to making both formal and non-formal learning transparent to respond not only to technical needs, but also to the difficulty in obtaining broad consensus regarding the representation and attribution of value/credit to the individual competencies and knowledge. Moreover, the proposal fits well into the strategic lines of the European Community contributing “to the
promotion of a Europe of knowledge through the development of a European area of cooperation in the education and professional training sector and supporting the policies of the Member States on life long training and the development of knowledge, aptitudes and competencies aimed at fostering an active and employable citizenship”.
The YES Project proposes the adaptation and transfer of the methodology and instruments of the identified best practices
(NEW HOSPITALITY) towards:
(1) Target Group: the best practice and related instruments will be transferred through an adaptation and implementation
process, from one target group comprising end-users represented by students participating in programmes of study offered
by vocational and technical schools operating in the Tourism/Hospitality sector. Moreover the transfer foresees a
diversification of the target users, in the sense that the outputs will be developed, tested and deployed not only on behalf
of the students but also by educators and trainers who would normally certify technical and professional competencies.
(2) Geographical Area:The partnership will involve partners coming from countries other than those in which the best
practice has taken place.

Product information The TEEMPASS on-line database is available at www.teempass.eu. TEEMPASS is an acronym for Tourism,Education,Employment,Mobility. It includes a database of technical-professional competencies and their related learning areas and learning pathways found in the various sectors of the Tourism and Hospitality industry. The TEEMPASS database is available in five languages: English, Maltese, Italian, Portuguese and Greek. Selecting any of these languages provides localised results relevant to the country associated to the language. A translation facility is also available. Results obtained my also be exported to various formats. Although mainly intended for use by students, this product may also be useful to employers and educators. The system is also accompanied by guidelines providing organisational, operational and content-related directions for creating seminars on the use of the software. Used properly, these seminars may also provide an important way to spread and disseminate the tools currently promoted by the European Commission to increase the transparency of competencies and subsequent mobility across countries and systems.
