Title TRIFT (Transfer of innovation into the field of foreign trade - Innovationstransfer in des Berufsfeld Außenhandel)
Project Number DE/10/LLP-LdV/TOI/147307
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Students in the area of foreign trade are internationally orientated and should gather international experience during their apprenticeship. To achieve this aim it is helpful to define competences in a way that can be understood Europe-wide.
The project has developed a description of the work processes and the occupational demands of the professions in the field 'foreign trade' in one TRIFT-matrix, which makes them transparent and understandable throughout Europe.
The TRIFT-competence matrix allows to display individual competence profiles and competence profiles of VET-programmes of different nations in one competence grid.
Also a set of outcome-oriented TRIFT-assessment-instruments have been developed and tested through TRIFT-mobilities.
The model of Vocational Qualification Transfer System -VQTS (LdV A/03/B/F/PP-158.034), developed for mechatronics have been transferred to the commercial sector and therein to the VET of professions of foreign trade.
In the project:
a) the competence matrix of VQTS including core competences and competence development units has been transferred into the professional area of foreign trade,
b) selected model units of the matrix in students’ mobilities (separate mobility application) have been applied,
c) outcome oriented assessemts-instruments have been developed,
d) some national VET-programmes have been 'mapped' on the TRIFT competence matrix alongside with additional informaion.
TRIFT has achieved the following goals:
a) A competence matrix for the professional field 'foreign trade' based on the VQTS-model has been developed, which allows the allocation the competences in a common competence grid. Thus formal and informal learning can be displayed transparently and comprehensible – this may be a profit for persons responsible for VET, individuals and companies in this professional field.
b) A basis for the description of Learning Units and/or Learning Agreements according to ECVET has been created for this professional field.
c) Different national VET-profiles have been displayed (or 'mapped') in one common competence matrix.
d) Mobilities of students have been completed; the competences gained in this internship have been tested through newly developed TRIFT-assessment-instruments on the basis of the TRIFT-competence matrix.
Impacts: Standardisation of traineeships, thus progress in EQF and ECVET process, improvement of quality and higher efficiency of traineeships, higher recognition, mandatory assessment and certification.
The project’s aim is a description of the work processes and the occupational demands of the professions in the field 'foreign trade' in one matrix, which makes them transparent and understandable throughout Europe.
Based on the working processes in companies experts from the partner countries developed together a competence matrix by the following steps:
1. TRIFT-competence matrix for the professional field of foreign trade
Core work tasks or competence areas have been elaborated which characterize and structure the work in the professional field of foreign trade.
To each of these core work tasks/competence areas have been assigned competence development steps. These competence development steps depict the development of competences in a certain competence area, usually from simple to more complex – they are based on each other. The TRIFT-competence matrix covers not only the professional field of foreign trade; also parts of other trade professions can be found in the matrix.
The TRIFT-competence matrix for the field of foreign trade does not only contain the competences for this profession; also there can be found in parts the competences of other trade professions as well.
2. Competence profiles of VET-profiles
For each country the vocational education and further education can be mapped in so called competence profiles: In each competence area /core work task the necessary competence development step(s) required are identified. As the competence matrix is agreed on by the experts of all partner countries, those competence profiles can be understood and broadly used in all partner countries – this causes increasing transparency. TRIFT has created a competence profile for one VET-programme of each partner country. Additional information describe the conditions for every VET-programme.
3. Internship units
In order to test the suitability of the matrix and profiles in daily work life, one or more units have been chosen in which the mobility have been completed. These units were part of all VETs of the partner countries, the competences acquired within have been subject of the assessments and certification (see below).
4. TRIFT-assessment instruments and TRIFT-certificate
The project's partners have developed a set of instruments for outcome orientated assessments to examine the competences acquired abroad. Furthermore the learning outcomes have been certified by a TRIFT-certificate and by the Europass. The set of TRIFT-assessment instruments can be used (partially or in total) also in other professions.
