Title Improving Quality in Work-Based Learning (IQWBL)
Project Number 2010-1-FI1-LEO05-03042
Project Type Projets de transfert d'innovation
Internationalization is not a value in itself in education, but it is an opportunity for better learning; for improving the language skills and knowledge about various cultures, for flexibility, for problem solving skill an for growth of self-understanding and self-confidence. The challenge for VET is to meet the changing skills needs of individuals and the world of work according to the principle of lifelong learning.
In order to ensure quality, there is a need for a set of documents and procedures that makes it possible to measure the quality of the training period and to provide means for evaluation.
A consortium of five partners has been working on the project. The final results were finished in autumn 2012.
The target group of the project is represented by the vocational teachers and students in the sectors of vocational training.
The IQWBL project started in October 2010 and ended in October 2012.
The main challenge for Vocational Education and Training (VET) is to meet the changing skills needs of individuals and the world of work in accordance with the principle of lifelong learning. Attention to individual needs and differences and recognition of previously acquired skills is crucial for planning and implementing education and training services.
Quality improvement is a key priority both in Finland and within the EU, and the Lighthouse project contains an assortment of documents, forms, and procedures, that strive to improve and measure the quality of the Work-Based Learning (WBL, On-the-job learning) period, and facilitate a better communication between the school and the companies that provide the training-opportunity.
The objective of the project was to implement best practices with regard to Work-Based Learning (WBL, On-The-Job Learning), and the applicable parts of the administration as practiced in the Lighthouse project, when the national curricula and practices are taken into consideration.
Exchange of experiences regarding WBL in different countries will took place in project meetings and by the means of internal communication over the Internet in between meetings.
The implementation of the good practices to ensure good-quality WBL (using results from the Lighthouse projects and from other projects) will be an integral part of the WBL procedures in the vocational colleges that are participating in the project. The results of the project will not be visible only during the project – the strategy is that they will remain part of the WBL procedures after the termination date of the project.
The results of the project – the transnational exchange of experiences, the implementation of the procedures, and the result of the pilot project – are published on the project’s website.
