Marketing Text The iSpectrum serious game virtual work environment aims to increase the work-based social interacting skills for autistic people assist their transition into or continuation of work.
Users choose one of 4 characters and can play in one of 4 languages (English, German, Bulgarian, Italian). After meeting an advisor in the placement office to hear about the jobs available and learn some basic tips for interviews and employment they choose which virtual environment they would like to try - Office/IT, Outdoor/Gardening, or Retail warehousing.
The user now must attend an interview with their new boss and also meet their new colleague 'Buddy' who will on hand to answer any questions and assist the user.
On completion of the interview the user can experience three different work days spread over the initial phase of employment. They will be presented with increasingly more complex tasks to develop work-based social interaction skills and general employability skills.
Target group People with ASD, Aspergers and other special needs wishing to develop social interactions skills in the workplace. VETPROS working with ASD, Educational psychologists/ scientists. Disability Advisors at Jobcentres, ASD societies and Groups.
Result A virtual work environment in the form of a serious game, available in 4 languages.
Area of application
The intention is for autism practitioner to use the game as a tool with their clients when assisting them into work. The game could also be used independently by autistic people, and also by general educators.
During dissemination of the project several employers opted to use the game themselves, to give them a better understanding of some of the challenges which autistic people face in the workplace.
