Title A multimedia tool for increasing safety knowledge and awareness in stone sector
Project Number 2009-1-ES1-LEO05-10914
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text Through this project an e-learning training tool using 3D animations has been developed, hosted in www.stonesafety.eu. Its aim is to contribute to increasing the knowledge and use of labour risk prevention measures in stone industry.
The project addresses the issue of risk prevention in the area of natural stone industry, an area where a high number of accidents can be registered. The risks in the natural stone industry are still very high, given the nature of the material and the high amount of dust that can generate diseases.
The aim of the project was to contribute to the risk prevention through an innovative 3-D training material which was made available online and on a CD-ROM for different actors from the stone sector and allows them to access a material for courses related to health and safety, in order to correspond to the need of risk and accidents prevention.
Partners of the project:
Promoter: Centro Tecnológico del Marmol (Spain)
Coordinator: Asesoramiento, Tecnología e Investigación S.L. (Spain)
Euroroc Brussels/Wiesbaden (Germany)
STONECON OY (Finland)
Square Concept Ltd (Malta)
EPROCHAS- Associação para a Escola Profissional das Rochas (Portugal)
As the project was designed for the stone industry, the target groups were workers and companies in the natural stone industry, training centres and all other organizations related to the stone industry.
The project brought together techniques for production of stone products from different countries. An extensive research has been done in order to set out a compilation of European and country-specific regulations related to risk prevention and protection in manufacturing processes of natural stone.
Research has been carried out on the companies working in the natural stone sectors in the regions represented in the project, in order to find out the main risk situations during the manufacturing processes. Moreover, the use of the safety equipment and environmental protection activities have also been researched.
Based on these extensive researches the 3-D multimedia material has been developed. This contains 10 animated sketches, of 2 minutes each, which show typical risk situations at the working place and how these can be prevented. Since they entail non-verbal communication, these can be accessed by all interested actors, regardless of their language knowledge.
