Marketing Text F4ST is a unique vocational e-learning programme aiming to strengthen know how on food safety, to improve skills and competences of food safety specialists and upgrade level of food safety inspections across Europe. In scope of F4ST Project, an e-learning curriculum is developed with participation of 10 European organizations from 7 countries. The curriculum is consisted of 10 modules with 76 lectures, 3175 ppt slides and speech texts, as well as an exam questions pool with 695 questions. F4ST is developed in English and Turkish, and based on e-learning technology which makes F4ST accessible easily all around the world. 2179 trainees from 52 different countries were enrolled in the training free of charge. At the end of the project, book version of the training is also developed. Now, F4ST training and book are on sale and available on F4ST website.
The guarantee of food safety and quality as well as traceability of food products along the food chain is currently the principal demand of the consumers and the EU. Although there are various professions such as veterinarians, food scientists, food engineers, agricultural engineers, and chemists etc. working in food safety area in the EU, there is a lack in the current academic curricula for a training program on food safety that guarantees the global food chain vision “from farm to table”. Therefore there is an urgent need for an integration and harmonization on the educational programs on food safety area to foster a holistic “from farm to fork” approach. F4ST project was developed to fulfill this gap.
The objectives of F4ST are; to fill the gaps for each profession with “from farm to fork” approach, to cover all food safety measures, EU regulations and total quality management methodology, to enhance qualifications and skills of food safety specialist.
1 candidate and 6 EU member countries have participated in the project to share their knowledge and experiences on related food safety issues and e-learning technology. The partner countries are Turkey, Netherlands, UK, Spain, Greece, Latvia and Poland.
The target group of F4ST is state official controllers, food safety operators and processors, auditors in certification or consultancy companies, senior university students or graduates from chemical engineering, food engineering, agricultural and fisheries engineering, and also chemistry, biology, and veterinary medicine departments. Non-EU countries which are exporting to the EU are also part of the target group. At the end of the project, all target groups were reached with intensive participation.
The language of the training is English and Turkish. F4ST curriculum is consisted of 10 modules with 76 lectures, and the content of each module includes outline of the module, lecture notes with sound recordings, references and further reading options, comprehensive questions-answers, module evaluation form, and module exam. Although 1500 participants were targeted, 2179 participants were enrolled in the F4ST training. The trainees, who completed the training programme successfully, received certificate of accomplishment or certificate of participation.
The efficiency and impacts of F4ST was evaluated by evaluation forms, surveys and SWOT analysis. The trainees’ evaluation showed that there is more than 90% satisfaction rate.
F4ST- From Farm to Fork Food Safety Specialist Programme is an innovative 90-hour e-learning program based on from farm to fork food safety, harmonized with EU laws and developed by the experts of partner countries to improve the skills and competences of food safety specialists. The existing education systems didn’t have an integrated and sustainable content and were not suitable for the EU regulations’ expectations. F4ST is an online training filling this gap and eliminating time and location boundaries.
The curriculum of F4ST is consisted of 10 modules with 76 lectures, 3175 ppt slides and sound records, as well as 9 module exams with large question pool. At the end of the training successful participants deserve to receive food safety specialist certificate.

The main product of the project is F4ST e-learning infrastructure and the integrated training content with 10 modules, 76 lectures, 3175 ppt slides and sound records, 695 exam questions.
The others are; project web page, 48 monthly e-bulletins in Turkish and English, national and international trademark registration of F4ST, 1816 certificates, and finally F4ST training book (after the project lifetime).
