Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text The project was completed in December 2009.The modules for Pattern Construction AB and Fashion Design AB were transferred into Turkish and Romanian as the training tools in textile and fashion design fields. The modules are now in the form to be transferred into other languages too.
Summary Product development in the fashion industry in Europe is undergoing a dramatic change and it changes the way companies are coming together in this new collaboration landscape. One of the major problems of the clothing industry at the moment is that the overall level of skills and qualifications needs to be raised and, therefore, it is also necessary for training modules to respond to the continuous evolution in the workplace so as to confront the problem of unemployment and increased competition. The aim of this project is to transfer a training module produced in advanced multi-media CD-ROM called TELESTIA AB: Fashion Express and PATTERN CONSTRUCTION into Turkish and Romanian. The objectives are to teach (1) how to construct the simple flat basic blocks in the module, (2) how to manipulate basic blocks and construct all the designs in the CD, (3) to teach basic lay and cut principles and apply them to the garment styles, (4) to teach how to create new garment styles by applying the principles used in the garment styles.
Description Tangible outcomes are the transferred training tools in advanced multi-media CD-ROM into Turkish and Romanian. These modules present a high quality pedagogic approach and methodology. With this pedagogy, the user can acquire complex creative pattern construction and grading skills, with limited or no supervision, through simple, standardised and reliable procedures. There will be quantifiable increase in the learning procedure and in skills of the target users (amateurs, students and employees) involved in the product development departments of clothing companies, i.e. designers and pattern technologists. These modules also target the home market, men and women who do not necessarily want to be involved with pattern making professionally, but who would like to acquire pattern making skills for their personal use. These modules are live examples and valuable precedents, which can be applied in the development of personalised learning tools for other disciplines that involve creative processes and acquisition of skills.
