Title e-Chance 2.0 for women entrepreneurship
Project Number 2009-1-ES1-LEO05-10376
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Research has shown that women face a number of difficulties in establishing and maintaining businesses.
The E-Chance for Women Entrepreneurship 2.0 project was aimed at the inclusion of women entrepreneurs into knowledge society: attending new ICT developments, practices and current entrepreneur needs, as well as personal development and competences for life (as creativity and innovation).
The final outcome of the project was a training platform based on web 2.0, combining elements of formal and informal training and creating blended e-learning environments that provided to women entrepreneurs with a set of basic skills and capacities regarding the web 2.0.
The Lisbon European Council defined an ambitious strategy for Europe to become ’the most competitive and dynamic knowledge-based economy in the world’, emphasising the need for the creation of an environment conducive to starting up and developing innovative businesses and especially small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Increasing the rate of new business creation by women is essential to stimulate innovation and employment in our economies.
Research has shown that women face a number of difficulties in establishing and maintaining businesses (Study “Young entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs, ethnic minorities entrepreneurs and co-entrepreneurs in the EU and Central and Eastern Europe”).
Women participation in self-employment has modestly increased since 1995 and amounted to 28 % in the EU-25 in 2003(Benchmarking enterprise policy. 2004). As female labour market participation in general has made good progress, approaching the 60 % target, self-employment has continued to be an option for comparatively few women. The pool of female entrepreneurial talent is still underexploited in the EU.
The report “Promoting entrepreneurship for women” pointed out that further work is necessary in the areas of:
- Improving training.
- Facilitating networking.
- Improving access to finance.
Considering the previous data, the project e-Chance 2.0 aimed:
- To foster the entrepreneurial mindset on women,
- To promote the access to the training through the uses of flexible and interactive tools,
- To improve the woman skills and qualifications regarding the use of technologies based on web 2.0. ,
- To promote the innovation and creativity among women collective,
- To improve the self-employability of women.
As a result, the training contents that will be available in the Web 2.0 will be really useful for the target group.
The main project outcome was a flexible and open training tool that promoted the entrepreneurial mindset on women, improving the personal skills and fostering the capacities regarding to knowledge society.
WP1 Project management and coordination: the WP required a continuous communication among the project partners (e-mail, net meeting, telephone, etc.). The management was reinforced by the celebration of 4 transnational meetings that allowed the verification of the advances in the project implementation, the adoption of strategic decisions, the sharing of difficulties or problems that surged during the project running, etc.
WP2 Transference: Analysis and Contents: The WP aimed to elaborate two main tasks: Analysis of the training needs of the target group; Analysis of the contents of the previous e-Chance project contents. The main goal of this WP was to establish a set of guidelines for transference.
WP3 Contents updating and adaptation. Considering the results of the previous WP, this WP was focus on previous contents updating and adaptation.
WP4 Adaptation of training platform. After adapting the contents, the new e-learning platform was developed.
WP5 Pilot experience: During 8 months the partnership implemented a serie of pilot experiences in each country.
WP6 Validation: For ensuring the functionality and the usability of the tool (and the methodological approach), the partnership developed a set of validation activities with final users and experts on training. The feedback obtained in this WP (jointly to the feedback of the pilot experience) was used for improving the training tool.
WP7 Valorisation: Exploitation and dissemination activities that were developed in each partner country according to the methodologies contained in the Exploitation and dissemination plans.
WP8 Monitoring and Evaluation: assured the continuous improvement in the project processes and results.
The e-Chance 2.0 was aimed to train on technologies based on web 2.0 for using in entrepreneurship processes. So, the training activities were addressed to develop some skills and capacities to improve the inclusion on the knowledge society of the women. In adittion, the acquisition of this skills and competences facilitated the personal development and the competences for life (as creativity and innovation).
Different institution from different areas of expertise formed the project partnership. Thus this situation improved the quality and increased the cooperation between different actors involved in learning and training opportunities.
The project developed methodologies based on web 2.0 technologies. In the last years, the use digital media including CD-ROMs, the Internet and Intranets for accessing technical manuals or for Web searches for learning is not new; but learning takes place only if information is applied in such a way as to develop new mental models and schemas, implicit or tacit which have to be made explicit and shared. CD-ROMs, the Web, etc are useful and convenient ways of storing and retrieving information but if this information is not transformed and context applied, it can be seen neither as learning nor knowledge development. Therefore, the new tool developed in the project innovated the learning materials, because it was continually in contact with other users, and sharing information. It improved the learning practices and the final user knowledge.
Finally the target group was the collective of women, a collective at risk. Through the use of this learning tool, women improved their competence for work or for entrepreneurship, and at the same time, the improved the employability and the accessing to self employment
