L’ Europe est sur le point du changement de la structure d’âge qui sans doute produira un effet dans les entreprises petites et moyennes (EPM). Elles tomberont dans un « piège démographique » - moins d’employés jeunes et plus d’employés âgés – pour lequel elles ne sont pas préparées. Voilà pourquoi il faut créer une ambiance éducative pour élever l’ aptitude au travail laquelle sera utile pour les deux groupes visés en ce qui concerne l’ éducation pendant toute la vie et les services.
La réponse du projet : EPM ainsi que les employés 55 + profiteront de possibilités d’ étudier pendant toute la vie pour améliorer leur aptitude au travail. Les premiers (EPM) comprendront et seront plus tolérants vers la spécificité de leur main d’œuvre vieillissante. En outre elles disposeront d’instruments législatifs pour la retenir au travail. Les seconds (les employés 55+) acquérront de nouvelles habiletés pour faire face aux provocations des nouveaux postes de travail.
Reasons: The ageing workforce in Europe imposes the provision of flexible employability environment since many European SMEs and 55+ are unprepared to meet this challenge. On one hand, SMEs do not value enough their older employees due to stereotyping and lack of knowledge and consultancy. They turn out to be in a «demographic trap» not knowing how to manage their new workforce: more 55+ and less younger employees. On the other hand, 55+ are not very willing to stay later at work due to lack of flexible employment opportunities and skills adequate to the new realities. Therefore, both target groups need to access LLL opportunities and services in relation to employability so that they can better understand and respect their cultures and find common solutions for their mutual benefit: SMEs – business growth and competitiveness ; 55+ - personal growth and self-esteem.
Impact: SMEs and 55+ will have LLL opportunities so that they can improve their employability perspectives: on the one hand, the former will become more aware of and tolerant to the specific nature of their ageing workforce and will better use the legislation tools for retaining it, and on the other hand, the latter will acquire new skills and update their competences so as to meet the challenges of the European knowledge-based-society job positions – diverse skills, intensive usage of ICT and languages, physical fitness, ability to work in a mixed-age team, ability to innovate, etc. In addition, 55+ will be provided with more and flexible employment opportunities and SMEs will be able to easily search competent 55+ employees and use them as valuable human resources. A change of the attitudes of employers and younger employees is expected in relation to the new image of 55+ “being productive, creative, and useful for the benefit of business and society”. A change of the attitudes of 55+ is also expected so that they become more willing to stay later at work and participate more actively in LLL. Both target groups will have the opportunity to discuss employment issues with their counterparts across Europe and exchange practices. Furthermore, better cooperation of SMEs, training providers, social partners and decision makers is envisaged.
The project has the following aims and objectives:
• To develop a supportive 55+ employability learning environment so as to encourage employment of older employees across Europe, which will lead to their retention at work as valuable human resources in their SMEs, thus improving companies’ competitiveness and 55+ personal growth and well-being.
• To elaborate learning materials and resources for both target groups, focusing on age management and employment legislation for SMEs management and HR staff, and on social competence, physical activity, ICT, and language learning for 55+ so that they can help each other in improving the employability perspectives: on the one hand, the first target group will become more aware of and tolerant to the specific nature of their ageing workforce and will better use the legislation tools for retaining it, and on the other hand, the second target group will acquire new skills and update their competences so as to meet the challenges of the European knowledge-based-society employee – diverse skills, intensive usage of ICT and languages, physical fitness, ability to work in a mixed-age team, ability to innovate, etc.
• To develop electronic employment databases for both target groups so as to provide 55+ with more employment opportunities and to facilitate SMEs managers in their search for competitive employees, thus resulting in improving the employment rate of older employees.
• To provide both target groups with an opportunity to discuss their problems and share experiences at national and European level so that intercultural aspects of employability can be considered in line with 2008 European Year of Intercultural Dialogue.
• To optimally use the possibilities of ICT for learning purposes
• To encourage a change in the attitudes of employers and employees in relation to the image of 55+ workforce so that their culture is better understand and their assets used for the benefit of business and society.
• To provide attractive VET opportunities for both employers and employees in order to encourage the participation in adult lifelong learning.
• To strengthen the cooperation between SMEs, organizations providing learning opportunities and social partners so as to encourage more attractive VET offers including e-learning and on-site learning, and better corresponding to the needs of employers and employees.

The main result of the project is the elaboration of an 55+ Employability Learning Environment which will be realized by means of the following products:
• Questionnaires, Partner-country Reports and a Collated Partnership Report in relation to the project research on the employability learning needs of the target groups.
• Multi-feature electronic platform having the following features: two databases, national employment legislation repositories, a supportive consultancy area, a learning area, a discussion forum, links to European employment legislation. The platform will be available in all partner-country languages and EN (where appropriate).
• Five study programmes and learning materials in Age Management (Internet-based), Social Competence (printed and Internet-based), ICT for Adults (printed and Internet-based), English for Adults (printed and Internet-based), Physical Activities and Health Issues (Internet-based). These products will be available in all partner-country languages and EN.
• Pilot testing and a Report on Pilot Testing.
The study prgrammes, learning materials and pilot testing will be based on the following pedagogical methodologies: e-learning (Age Management, Physical Activities and Health Issues) for self-study, blended learning (Social Competence, ICT for Adults, English for Adults), with a balance between face-to-face sessions and e-learning self-study. Face-to-face sessions will be based on team and pair work, role plays, simulations and discussions. Cooperative learning technique will also be used for Social Competence.
The project will produce some outputs in relation to its efficient and effective coordination and management: a Reporting Procedure, Reports on Project Progress, Partnership Electronic Communication System, and Partner meetings.
To guarantee high quality of project activities and products, the project will also produce the following results: a Quality Procedure, an Evaluation Plan, and Quality Reports.
In relation to the dissemination and exploitation of project results and the effective implementation of the project dissemination strategy the following outputs will be produced: individual dissemination plans, dissemination forms, internal briefings, electronic info via mailing lists/networks, dissemination meetings/telephone calls, articles in printed media, interviews in electronic media, conference papers, assessment workshops, exhibitions, leaflets/brochures, promotional
