Title Designing For ACcessibility and emoTiOn
Project Number 2009-1-ES1-LEO05-10329
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text D-FACTO provides engineers designers and R&D staff with a self-learning platform, which integrates learning contents in the field of emotional and accessible design and provides access to tools, case studies and relevant complementary information.
D-FACTO facilitates the integration of aspects of emotional and accessible design into the products and services of European SMEs. This was realized by providing the engineers designers and R&D staff, i.e. those involved in the processes of conceptualization and design of products and services, with the competences and skills to integrate emotional and/or accessible design principles into these products and services. D-FACTO provided them with a self-learning platform, which integrated learning contents in the field of emotional and accessible design and provided access to tools, case studies and relevant complementary information.
The project is based upon the transfer of the results of several innovative projects and materials of the members of the consortium. These materials, experiences and results formed the basis for transfer and are adapted and/or integrated into the learning platform. On the basis of a needs analysis the contents of the learning system as well as the technical requisites are defined, and materials adapted. In the case specific gaps are identified with respect to the existing materials new complementary materials have been developed. The system has been tested with representatives of the target public so as to validate the results.
The consortium led by CETIEX and coordinated by FUNDECYT (Spain), consisted of the following organisations:
- University of Nottingham (UK)
- Innovate (Ireland)
- Kaunas Regional Innovation Centre (Lithuania)
- XLAB (Slovenia)
- X-PANEL (Cyprus)
The project is divided in 4 main phases:
1. State-of-the-art Identification (WP2, 3 and 4)
2. Adaptation and Development (WP5, 6 and 7)
3. Test and Validation (WP8)
4. Dissemination, Awareness raising and Assessment (WP 9 and 10)
The Consortium Agreement was prepared and signed, the Procedure and Management manual was created as well as the management system of the project, included the on-line management tool (WP1).
In the State-of-the-art identification phase, the aim was to obtain a view of the current status regarding the needs of engineers, designers and R&D staff, and personnel involved in the processes of conceptualization and design of products and services of European SMEs related to emotional and accessible design techniques as well as materials and contents available in this field.
To that end, a methodological framework was developed (WP2) to set the guidelines of this analysis (WP3) and to create a map of techniques, materials and content (WP4 and 5).
The goal of the next phase was to adapt materials and develop the D-FACTO system; that was the knowledge base, the self-diagnostic tools, the training area and the support system. Materials and contents that were integrated in the self-learning system were addressed and adapted (WP 5 and 6), as well as the planification of this system (WP7).
Once the system was developed, it was evaluated and validated (Phase 3) by representatives of the target public, developing a validation and evaluation methodology and fieldwork in order to be obtained the results of the evaluation (WP8). These results indicated the improvements that had to be made to the self-learning system, both in its technological components and in its contents. These improvements were implemented in the system in order to fully adapt it to the needs of the target public (WP7).
The appraisal was carried out from the beginning of the project, designing awareness and dissemination to present to recipients and potential users all of the possibilities offered by D-FACTO products and results. Activities were performed in order to raise awareness about solutions to user needs, regarding emotional and accessible design in order to improve innovation into products and services (WP9) and finally, activities were assessed (WP10).
