The project aims to offer capacity building by raising skill levels and create non-routine skills through innovative vocational training methods, targeting to Local Authorities, organizations of the civil society (NGOs) and practitioners (e.g. engineers, social and natural scientists) in the Mediterranean, on the issues of Integrated Coastal Zone Management and the impacts of Climate Changes.
Seven partners from Cyprus, Greece, Malta and The Netherlands, representatives of the major coastal key actors: SMEs, Consultancies, NGOs and Local Authorities.
The major envisaged impact is to support local policy makers, practitioners and society to develop skills and capacity in order to foster the knowledge base for policy and practice on sustainable development in the Mediterranean. By acquiring non routine skills the trainees will improve their status in the labour market. The promotion of networking, synergies and mobility is an inherent activity in this proposal.
The proposal is structured in 9 interrelated workpackages. The management and coordination of activities is considered as an important task for achieving the goals of the proposal. The time schedule is tight and clear, the expected products are realistic. Three workpackages (WP1-6-7) guarantee effective management, organisation, coordination and quality control. Open method of coordination is implemented in order to achieve best results, balance participation of the partners and it forms part of the training process itself (mainly for the end users, ie Local Authorities partners and NGOs). All the products and processes go through quality control throughout all the stages of the project (WP6 and WP7).
The four “development of the training products” workpackages (WP2-3-4-5) are carefully design: WP2 is the baseline study of the project. It is based on a systematic approach to set down the real local conditions. The aim is to assess target groups’ training needs and gaps of knowledge on ICZM and climate changes issues and address social and cultural special characteristics of each country and each target group. WP5 is the web part of the proposal, which is considered very important and is based on an innovative concept, with implementation of Mediawiki, ICT-based tools, chat-room etc. WP8 is the dissemination strategy, and WP9 is the Exploitation of the results. WP8 and WP9 are considered as core activities of the proposal and are designed as dynamic- adaptive systems, in order to achieve visibility, publicity and sustainability.
