Title Disseminating Open and Innovative Tools and Services for VET in Quality Assurance
Project Number 2009-1-NO1-LEO05-01046
Project Type Projets de transfert d'innovation
Status En cours
Do-IT is a Leonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation project. It utilizes learning methods that mix and merge the following components into one competence transfer model:
A pedagogical tool that utilizes ABT to produce a product by following the industrial production flow of an object in such a way that theoretical training is directly connected to practice.
Self paced on-line education, and high quality instructional video of learning material to institutes, SME and VET schools. The training method promotes the use of modern learning tools in quality assurance and quality management training.
Reason: 1) One of the largest bridges in Europe was recently produced at multiple fabrication sites through an outsourced production process. The surface treatment was clearly specified by the contractor according to given standards. However the Quality Assurance (QA) humidity requirements were not understood in one of the sites, whereby the expected maintenance and renewal cycle of 30 years, actually was reduced to 5 years. Additional costs: 1.5 mill euro every 5 year. 2) The MECCA pilot project (05-07) developed the new Activity Based Training (ABT) learning environment. ABT follows always the industrial production process, where the students always produce a final product. ABT facilitates 1) a just-in-time on-the-job production workflow competence and knowledge transfer approach, 2) a pedagogical model where theoretical training is always immediately followed by practical training, 3) coordinated use of advanced video technology, and 4) industrial quality assurance management where students exchange their products during a course.
Main aims: Do-IT is aiming at disseminating and raising the awareness of a brand new integrated blended ABT learning environment. It offers flexible and sound pedagogical delivery of level specific manufacturing industry QA production process training to VET schools and SME organizations in Romania, Hungary and Norway. Do-IT disseminates new methods for delivering in-company skills upgrading processes that reduces the costs related to competence and knowledge transfer, and enhances production competence and know-how transfer to VET schools. This includes:
• Educate QA VET instructors as Activity Based Training learning environment advisers
• Disseminate an innovative transfer system for in-company QA training of personnel, delivered on a just-in-time basis without distance limitations by utilizing video and mobile, brand new, interactive student response systems on iPOD Touch.
Partnership: The consortium has a strong industrial presence with strong ties to QA companies (QM), distance learning methods, blended learning, video technologies (HiST), and manufacturing industry (UPM, BOKIK and UoH) leading to identification of inadequacies in current training systems and standards for effective instructor training delivery. The partnership has complementary expertise and tasks. They have cooperated successfully previously. HiST and QM personnel were key partners in the Mecca project.
Outcomes: i) Disseminating ABT learning environment to VET schools and companies that certify QA personnel in Romania, Hungary and Norway. ii) Awareness rising and delivery of instructor training to QA trainers. iii) Delivery of training courses to QA specialists. iv) Seminars, conferences and exhibitions for transfer of knowledge to stakeholders in Europe.
Impact: Participating training institutes, VET schools and companies may utilize the new ABT learning environment to offer a broad range of specialized courses at a European level.
Description To disseminate, raise awareness and make use of Activity Based Training (ABT) within the field of quality assurance. This includes using new methods for delivering in-company processes that aim at upgrading skills, which again lead to reduced costs related to the transfer of competence and knowledge. It also enhances the transfer of competence to Vocational Education and Training schools and includes the use of an innovative transfer system for quality assurance training of personnel. This system is delivered on a just-in-time basis without any distance limitations by utilizing video transmissions and brand new mobile and interactive student response systems on iPod Touch and iPhone.

Multilingual educational material.
The distribution of Activity Based Training learning environments to vocational education and training schools as well as to companies that provide quality assurance training in Hungary, Romania and Norway.
Raised awareness and the delivery of instruction training to trainers. The delivery of training courses to quality assurance specialists from various industries.
Seminars, conferences and exhibitions for the transfer of knowledge to stakeholders in Europe.
Participating institutes, vocational education and training schools and companies may utilize the ABT environment to offer a range of courses in Europe.
At the end of a course the students have produced a real physical product or designed a process based up on specifications provided through an external order.
Students participate in a practical problem-solving process where they must decide in which sequence they are going to produce the components and afterwards assemble them, in order to handle the specifications in the order. During this process they develop an understanding for the importance of obtaining both practical and theoretical knowledge!
Engaged students that use an attractive learning framework
ABT may be used in high schools, vocational education and training, as well as higher education
