Marketing Text There is a strong need for flexible and evidence-based teacher/trainer professional development programs on integrating ICT in their teaching that will enable them to improve the quality of education they offer to EU citizens. The purpose of the Design-Practice project is to advance teachers’ and trainers lifelong learning skills and and to better prepare them in integrating ICT in teaching and training in innovative ways.
Partner organizations include CARDET (Centre for the Advancement of Research and Development in Educational Technology), the Open University UK, the University of Piraeus, the Cyprus Pedagogical Institute, the International Council for Educational Media, and INNOVADE LI Ltd.
To achieve the goals of this project, the partners transferred innovation on lifelong learning and on preparing teachers to teach with ICT from the world's leading institution, the Open University UK. To ensure the success of the project, the partners also took into account global perspectives from the International Council for Educational Media.
The project met all its initial objectives with great success. More specifically the project met the purpose of advancing teachers’ and trainers lifelong learning skills and and better preparing them in integrating ICT in teaching and training in innovative ways. The trainings were able to better prepare teachers to teach with ICT, and to advance their lifelong learning skills by building a community of teachers for sharing, discussing, debating, and improving instructional activities and learning designs.
The experience and know-how of the partners were crucial to the success of the project and the achievement of the project objectives. The partners brought together collective knowledge and expertise from previous projects on teacher training and professional development, online education, and learning designs in order to ensure that outcomes comply with international standards for ICT, lifelong learning and professional development.
The transfer of innovation from the Open University UK, the world leading institution on lifelong learning and on preparing teachers to teach with ICT, and the transfer global perspectives from the International Council for Educational Media were key to achieving the project objectives.
In Cyprus, workshops were held both in Nicosia & Limassol with success. Participants enjoyed the experiential nature of the workshops and the collaborative work and stated that they would use this methodology in the future. In addition to the workshops, presentations and dissemination activities took place in Nicosia, Larnaca, and Limassol, impacting a broader community of teachers, trainers, University students and interested individuals in the Education sector.
The workshop implementation in the UK was also successful, even though there were a few practical issues in participating (professors participating would have to do it in their own time and without any reimbursement for their travelling costs). In addition to the project implementations, several additional workshops took place in various Universities and schools in the UK, in order to reach out to as many people as possible.
In Greece, the workshops took place as part of a Masters level course in Education at the University of Piraeus. The students were very satisfied and stated that they found the methodology very useful and they would definitely use it again in the future. Moreover, the workshop will continue to be part of future courses on ICT & Education offered by the University of Piraeus, impacting more and more students in Greece.
