Summary The YENTELS project had developrd training materials on entrepreneurship which are specifically designed for young people with minimal qualifications who have not chosen to access higher education, but who are more suited to following a vocational career. E-learning approaches that are suitable for young people (e.g. WIKIS & computer gaming) were the main vehicle for the training but had been combined with other ICT based learning methods (e.g. on-line learning groups, e-tutoring & transnational virtual study circles). In carrying out the project the project partners built on the lessons learnt in the Leonardo funded international trade training project (InTeLS) in which most were partners.
The project tested the appropriateness of this particular type of informal training for a target audience that had generally been difficult to engage in lifelong learning initiatives. It filled a gap in provision where business start-up training is normally focused on mature adults experienced in using their vocational skills in a work environment. The project had:
Developped new targeted content for young people on entrepreneurship;
Extended the use of innovative e-learning technologies (e.g. gaming/simulation) to develop entrepreneurial skills;
Tested the viability of e-learning technologies as a learning medium for young people not in Higher Education;
Added to e-learning best practice & informed those involved with young people’s entrepreneurial training & guidance about the suitability of such new technology;
Encouraged the enterprise spirit in young people to facilitate employment, growth, competitiveness & innovation

Almost all project outputs were available in an on-line format Specific planned outputs of this type included:
an interactive games-based e-learning tool available both as a CD & via a website.
A project website in all partner languages that provided online support, additional information & act as a sign-post to other relevant (on-line) materials.
A project portal forum where young people & key stakeholders could discuss business ideas, share common concerns & even contribute knowledge (via WIKKIs)
Demonstration software that had enabled young people, trainers, SMEs & their intermediaries to trial the materials, gain exposure to e-learning approaches used, provide on-line assessments & encourage the provision of feedback.
