Project reacts to the lack of modern educational means using modern information technologies (CD ROM, internet) in teaching vocational German for forest economics and also to the inadequate laguage competence of the staff in this sector. Questionnaire survey of the contractor indicated that target group has basic but not adequate language competences necessary for usual communication with foreign partners (sale of wood, management in the care for animals, conferences and workshops, informal meetings, etc.). The interest for German language is also connected with the fact that "German school of forestry" is still considered to be the basis in the theory of forestry in Slovakia, Czech Republic as well as in other European countries. This project is thematically connected with the project SK/99/1/84108/PI/III.1.a/FPC - Vocational English Language Training for Forest Enterprise Staff (http://isternet.sk/uvvplvh/leonardo/index_sk.htm). Partners will also make use of the results of TELOS LANGUAGE PARTNER (http://www.linguaplan.de) project implemented by German partner. Primary target group set by partners are workers in state and private enterprises and forestry economics institutions (especially medium management) mastering German language on the medium level. Innovative feature of an interactive CD ROM, which is the main result of project, is using modern principles in teaching languages: using authentic materials connected with working background of the target group, integrated language education combining traditional education methods (off line) as well as modern (on line), "autonomy" of teacher enabling an active participation in the creation of the content of multimedial course that will ensure adapting educational materials to the current needs of the target group and different pedagogical techniques. The main priority of project is improvement of employment and the main target is support of the quality and approach to the further education. Impact of project is defined as improvement of communication competences of the target group in vocational German. Results will be also disseminated by organisations co-operating in the previous projects (e.g. Irish EUROFORTECH).
