Marketing Text In this iQSim project the main aim is not to create a 100% sure and in the daily workshop prac-tice and operation used welding software – but to develop such a learning and teaching tool which may make the welding process more transparent and understandable for the students. Without ―any oral explanation they can view the visualized effect of their selections of process variables.
Description The model user group is – according to aim of iQSim project - mechanical industry welder in-structors, while the ultimate final users of the training principles will be the actual. The report is available in WP 2.

The training framework is based on standardization of technical and theoretical practice oriented solutions and inclusion of state of the art simulator technologies in training and skills development.
The training course will have a special structure as follows:
- technical part,
- simulation and modeling part,
- pedagogical part.
A technical part will give a summarized overview of the fundamentals of fusion welding opera-tions, e.g. heat transfer, structure and sort of welded joint, welding time and costs mainly in con-nection with the computing and pedagogical methods which will be discussed in the next ―chap-ter‖ – named: simulation and modeling‖. This is technical part is mainly for reproducing on-going welding process on technical correct basis however not intended for real technological activity in workshop.
A simulation and modeling part is based on simplified and generally known characteristics which correspond to the common good practice and transparent enough for the students to follow the welding phenomena. These are approved solutions coming from different internationally used modeling methods. These models are in line with the reality, the results are reliable enough for the practice, specially for welder‘s and student‘s initial welding training and the evidence will be verified by different tests, e.g. measuring on the specimen (test-piece) the main characteristics of the welded joint, like the width of heat affected zone, the volume of welded joint and so forth.
The pedagogical framework combines good practices from the class- room teaching practice, distance learning technologies and distance training environments. This is done by establishing new model(s) for delivering cost- and time-efficient in-company adapted mixed (blended) learn-ing and training that create new synergies for effective and pedagogical inclusion of state of the
art online simulator tools into current training principles within the welding sector. The basis for such a framework will be an innovative instructor training program.
This training program will have (as mentioned above) two separate parts. They are the technical one and pedagogical one. The technical one summarizes the basic welding phenomenon and the pedagogical one gives advice in first place to the trainer how to use this IT based training tool and later how the welders and students can use it.
