Title e-Learning Strategy for the development of Key Competencies for Lifelong Learning by taking advantage of Job Placements Programmes
Project Number ES/08/LLP-LdV/TOI/149104
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text The COMPETT project is related to priority No. 6 of the Lifelong Learning Programme’s call for proposals, as it is a comprehensive proposal to adapt relevant innovative e-learning contents as a way to improve work-based training for university students and graduates in European businesses. To achieve this goal, the project introduces an innovative programme to develop key professional competences in work-linked training, which helps promote personal fulfilment, active citizenship and employability, and facilitates access to the European labour market for university graduates.
This project is aimed at using and adapting materials and products developed in previous projects, relying on new technologies to offer distance learning training in key competences to people who participate in mobility projects across Europe. This training involve a learning, tutoring, follow-up and assessment system applied during the acquisition of professional competences at work-linked training. The project fosters the use of qualification transparency instruments, thus supporting and improving the Europass programme through a certificate common to institutions working in the mobility sphere.
The main goal of the project is to ensure that citizens get the training, assessment and certificates they need regarding key competences during work-linked training outside their country. These elements constitute the grounds for the COMPETT project. The are innovative aspects leading to the quality improvement of mobility programmes as they pertain to one of the operating purposes of the Lifelong Learning Programme: to “encourage mobility improvement both qualitatively and quantitatively in Europe among people who are involved in lifelong learning […].”
In view of the results of preceding projects, the key competences for learning set out by the European Commission, and the needs identified by the project’s partners, the COMPETT programme will lay down the framework for the key competences that individuals who participate in mobility programmes are to acquire during their training. Competence acquisition will be assessed by asking students to show what they have learned, and the accreditation will be granted in accordance with the Europass-Mobility system.
COMPETT is thus a comprehensive learning, tutoring, follow-up and online assessment system that enables university students and graduates to acquire professional competences while participating in mobility projects in European enterprises. The project is a clear solution to improve and support the services offered by Europass-Mobility, giving full transparency to the qualification process and including non-academic components based on the development of professional and personal skills.
Partnership composition is a key factor for the project’s success. There will be a technical partner specialising in distance learning, who is to adapt and host the distance learning and assessment platform, and four organisations managing mobility programmes: University of Valladolid General Foundation, which controls the largest mobility programme in Europe in terms of the number of participants (650 students in 2006-2007 and an estimated 1,000 for 2008-2010); the University of Eindhoven, Netherlands (400 mobility project users per year); the University of Miskolc, Hungary (almost 70 mobility project participants a year on average); and DANUBE, an organisation specialising in European Programmes for the Vienna Region, Austria (around 200 academic mobility project users a year), whose director coordinates LEO-NET, the largest practical internship support network in Europe.
