Project Number UK/06/B/F/LA/162_538
Project Type Language Competence (2000-2006)
Country UK-United Kingdom
Marketing Text The Harvest project aims to raise the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises in the food & drink sector and associated industries through the creation of language training resources.
Summary Funded under the European Commission’s Leonardo programme and match funded by four European partners, the project’s three key work packages aim to audit up to 300 companies’ language resource requirements, develop and test materials to meet these needs, and to create an on-line ‘roadmap’ which guides companies through language & culture resources and support available.
The project consisted of 4 core elements. First, audits of 300 SMEs in the agrifood and agro-tourism sectors in terms of their language & culture needs. Second, development of language training materials. Third, testing of these materials. Fourth, development of a series of interactive web-based roadmaps.
The development of materials was dominated by the need for English, with the UK opting for French and Polish. These materials reflected the agrifood and agrotourism sectors, and English language levels were distributed amongst the non-UK partners, with Hungary developing materials at post-beginner level, Bulgaria developing materials at beginner level and Poland those at intermediate level.
