This guidebook has been created as part of the Pool2Business project supported by the European Leonardo da Vinci Initiative. The aim is not to cover all project processes, but rather to focus on the specifics of international projects with a strong virtual aspect.
Knowing the risks in all of the important steps within the project lifecycle helps to manage virtual projects more successfully. Phases, activities and tasks are analyzed, helping to apply a best practice approach to managing international projects. Delivering virtual projects on time and within budget - this vPM guidebook offers the necessary information on how to properly initiate, plan, execute and close virtual projects. Furthermore, a certification program is presented that enables managers to acquire management skills and competencies to be qualified for distributed projects as well as proving their suitability.
Description The virtual Project Management (vPM) guidebook helps to manage virtual projects more successfully by knowing the risks in all important steps within the delivery lifecycle. In order to support managers who are interested in gaining competences in vPM, the guidebook elaborates on the required knowledge to implement international virtual project management. For example, it answers the following questions: How should online project management be integrated into existing business processes? Where in company culture, organization and strategy must changes take place? Which processes should be executed over an online platform, which in real life? Which obstacles are there to cope with?

The guidebook is the summary of the experiences and discussions of all pilot training participants, pilot training trainers, work package leaders and invited experts.
The results have been collected in the process handbook by the training participants. The process handbook has been the basis for the establishment of the vPM Guidebook to answer all the questions coming from the experiences and discussions and all necessary information surrounding the topic of vPM.
