Title Project AGRI-TRANS: Transparency in agricultural occupational training. Practical experiences of European standards, livestock breeding (pig farmer) as an example.
Project Number DE/08/LLP-LdV/TOI/147118
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text In Europe, agriculture is a highly mobile sector as it employs two million migrant workers. Meanwhile the need for qualified workforce has grown, whose transnational search for work has been made difficult due to lacking transparency in national certificates and degrees. During the project the instruments “Agripass” and Registry for farming jobs, designed by the Social partners of the European Social Dialog (sector agriculture) EFFAT and GEOPA, have been disseminated, evaluated and developed.
The project presented and disseminated the Curricula vitae „Agripass“, a simple form of “Europass” - using the example of pig farming, and the registry of agricultural jobs in partner countries. Agricultural unions from eight different countries presented both instruments to vocational training institutions, identified the need for adaption of national agricultural vocational systems, submitted proposals for a single training frame and developed recommendations for social partners of the European Social Dialogue to further develop those instruments.
Participating countries were Bulgaria, Belgium/EFFAT, Denmark, Germany, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania.
The project took place from 01.09.2008 until 31.08.2010.
Description During the first project phase, the vocational training conditions for pig farming were examined in four regional conferences taking place in the partner countries. East European partners acknowledge “Agripass” and "registry of farming jobs" as important component for the new conception of an agricultural training and education system. On the whole, participants deplored the discrepancy between existing qualitative training and the low qualification levels of people working in the pig farms on the ground. “Agripass” and “Registry of agricultural jobs” shall increase mobility. Results of the regional conferences were discussed at the expert workshop to develop recommendations for the improvement of vocational education and training jointly with experts of this area. During three different practical tests in Germany, Denmark and France project participants presented both instruments and inquired them on their experiences with their respective pig farming training and their expectations for the future. Results of the dialogue process were presented at the final conference and the recommendations and the list of demand for better working and training conditions were adopted. Meanwhile they were presented to the European Social Dialogue (sector agriculture) and the social partners who agreed on using them as basis for the further development of Agripass and registry.
