It is the aim of the project to make socially disadvantaged apprentices in construction/ craft professions (joiners, painters, bricklayers, plasterboard layers, gardeners/landscapers - 3 years vocational training) of ABU gGmbH familiar with European technologies, traditions and experience in conservation and restoration of historical/ old buildings, to provide them additional knowledge and skills in this field and to give them motivation for further professional qualification (lifelong learning). In combination with the development of professional mobility and intercultural competence this will support the professional and social integration of these participants and open them chances for a sustainable employment in the field of their future professions.
After professional, cultural and language preparation (in Berlin and abroad) 30 selected participants (male/ female) of 2nd and 3d year classes will participate in practical work seminars during two succeeding years in different European countries (each participant twice for 3 weeks each). For this, 2 groups (15 apprentices each) from various crafts will be established. During the work seminars they will participate in the conservation and restoration of historical buildings, interior, places etc. (for example classical/ historical colours, construction materials, walls, wood procession, ceramic plates, windows, gardens, landscapes, paves). Complex work projects will be defined that allow cross profession teamwork and joint work with local apprentices, if possible. Places and content of work seminars will be subject of project agreements with the partners (preliminary agreements have been made: castle and old town of Szczecin, old town of Padua and Venice, for example). For collecting further work experience participants will be motivated and supported to take up an employment abroad (after training). All other ABU apprentices in craft professions will be involved in preparation and dissemination activities. Enterprises and the public will be informed about process and results of the project .
Beside the direct aims of the project, the partners will use the Leonardo Mobility Programme for collecting experience for setting up a training centres network. They will on their own apply for mobility projects and/ or organise as host partners work seminars.
