Title Computer based Exercise Generation and Evaluation System for mathematics, physics and chemistry subjects
Project Number LLP-LdV-TOI-2007-LV-003
Project Type Transfer of Innovation
Marketing Text The Project "Computer based Exercise Generation and Evaluation System for mathematics, physics and chemistry subjects (hereafter also - GENEXIS)" was initialized with an idea to develop and adapt an attractive and engaging e-learning tool in order to incrase students motivation and interest in natural sciences’ subjects and ensure their competitiveness in the labour market. The adaptation process consisted of survey of real needs for natural sciences subjects in every partnership country, integration of specific requirements into the system, and translation of the content and desktop to national languages in order to provide user friendly and well comprehensible ICT based tool for national educational institutions.
The research results from each partnership country demonstrated a necessity for development of tools and methods that could increase the interest and motivation of pupils in natural sciences and mathematics subjects as well as improve the rates of their achievements.
The main aim of this project was to promote development of human resources and to increase knowledge level of pupils of vocational education institutions in the field of mathematics, physics and chemistry through Information Communication Technologies (ICT) based Exercise Generation and Evaluation System, thereby promoting students motivation and interest in natural sciences’ subjects and to increase their competitiveness in the labour market.
In order to achieve the main aim 7 partners from 5 countries agreed to cooperate within the project framework.
The Project coordinator Data Pro Group Ltd. agreed to render the GENEXIS system to all partners for use during the project, 5 technology and innovation transfer centres and companies in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Slovakia and United Kingdom undertook the adaptation process and Daugavpils University ensured the methodological support from pedagogical point of view.
The objectives of the project were:
1) To perform survey on educational systems and specific needs for mathematics, physics and chemistry subjects in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia and United Kingdom.
2) To adapt the Exercise Generation and Evaluation System to specific country needs and translation in partner countries languages.
3) To promote the implementation of new ICT based application in the vocational education systems in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Slovakia and United Kingdom.
4) To increase pupils’ interest in natural sciences subjects through attractive ICT based tool.
5) To lighten teachers day to day work in the tests development and tests control.
The main result of the project will be the GENEXIS system adapted for implementation in partners’ countries.

GENEXIS is an e-learning solution based on exercise generation engine that makes the learning process more efficient, attractive and engaging. It is based not only on „just-in-time” and „just-for-you” principles but also on „learning-by-doing” principle.
The initial idea of GENEXIS was to resolve two great problems of teaching and learning process: inefficient consumption of teaching time on exercise creation and monitoring and lack of interest in study process among learners. It has been done by providing an attractive, engaging and simple learning and teaching environment that reflects the modern internet-saturated life.
