Marketing Text In response to the growth of the free movement of labour with in the European union and the significant challenges this brings, GEMS NI have developed an innovative programme that addresses the barriers to employment experienced by migrant workers and other minority ethnic groups.
In addition to information advice and guidance to access the labour market this target group require customised support to learn the language skills they need to seek and access employment in the Northern Ireland labour market.
The aim of Learning Language for Work (LLFW) is to transfer the innovation of the programme and customise it as a resource for guidance counselling services and vocation, education and training (VET) agencies who support migrant workers in Germany, Hungary, Ireland and Romania. This will be achieved through a partnership involving guidance, counselling, VET, Human resources and ICT specialists from partner countries working together to develop LLFW programmes directly applicable to the mother tongue and labour market profile within each partner country. Tangible outcomes will embrace an accredited flexible learning programme in each country that supports the employability and language development of migrant workers enhancing their productivity and opportunities for job progression; added value outcomes include a contribution to tackling labour market shortages, improved social cohesion and access to public services.
The impact of LLFW will be a high quality resource for Counselling/VET organisations and support agencies enabling them to work more effectively with migrant workers resulting in employment and personal development support for migrant workers and productive employees for business and the economy.
