Project Type Mobility - initial vocational training IVT
Individual Participation Not possible
Pupils of a technical college in Austria are obliged to complete practical training over a period of at least 8 weeks within their 5 years of education. This practical training must be done in engineering companies. Up to now this has been done mainly in firms in Vorarlberg and the neighbouring countries.
Many of these firms have branches in English speaking countries. Last year we contacted these firms in order to find work placements in England. We received positive responses from Tridonic (Dornbirn), Neutrik (Schaan, FL)and WSP Group plc(London). The company Hilti (Liechtenstein) also offered placements for two students.
All 8 students signed contracts for periods of either 6 or 7 weeks. The type of work which they carried out complies with the regulations and requirements of a technical college in Austria. This means they were required to meet the demands of covering practical experiences in addition to their theoretical and practical education at school (dual educational system).
This practical training abroad contributes to promoting both practical experiences at the place of work and language improvement. In addition, the students gained a lot on a personal and social level.
