Title AluMATTER - Modular Interactive e-Learning Course on Aluminium Fabrication Technology
Project Number EUR/02/C/F/PP-84701
Project Type Pilot Project, project with multiplying effect (2000-2006)
Marketing Text aluMATTER is a freely-accessible website that provides innovative and interactive e-learning resources for aluminium science and technology. aluMATTER received 2 awards from the European Commission: the Helsinki award in Dec 2006 and the Bronze medal in Berlin in May 2007.
Summary Coordinated by the European Aluminium Association, AluMATTER is a partnership programme on aluminium science and technology involving the major aluminium companies active in Europe and key European universities and technology centers. aluMATTER benefited from a three-year co-funding from the EU Commission’s Leonardo da Vinci programme. The aluMATTER website is a high quality, interactive, pedagogically sound, innovative and freely accessible e-learning tool.
The aluMATTER portal counts nine modules and several case studies available for students and professionals alike, dealing with: Strengthening Mechanisms, Softening Mechanisms, Anisotropy, Surface & Physical Properties, Mechanical Properties, Machining Technology, Joining Technology, Forming Technology, Corrosion Control.
The web structure has been designed to allow the content to be accessed via at least three different "entry points"
- Products/applications - e.g. marine plate, aircraft extrusions, beverage can sheet, etc.
- Processing - e.g. ingot casting, homogenisation, hot rolling, extrusion, etc.
- Materials Science & Engineering - e.g. microstructure, phase transformations, dislocation interactions, etc.
