Summary The project “EASTMEAT", coordinated by the Foundation ECCEAMST and involves 18 partners from different level training/research institutions, products boards and industries from the Czech republic, Hungary and Poland as well as Austria and the Netherlands. The Dutch and Austrian partners, experienced in the implementation of (European) projects, closely involve the other project partners as from the pre-proposal phase, to familiarise, especially those from the new accession countries with the development and implementation of European Commission supported projects. Although the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland have a longstanding tradition in the production of internationally acknowledged meat products, with their accession into the European Union at the horizon, the need for a competitive meat sector with skilled professionals is of great social and economical importance. During the MEATNET GOES EAST PROJECT (No.074124), the training and information needs prevailing in the meat sector in several Central European countries were identified. The project EASTMEAT addresses these needs through the development of 4 training modules and a searchable database with meat-related terms, accessible via the INTERNET through the MEATNET- Website. The project envisages to provide a valuable contribution for the preparation of the meat sector in the new accession countries for this purpose. The two main aims are to experiment with new training methodologies and delivery systems as well as through their contents to contribute to a sustainable development of the meat sector and improve the employability of persons active herein. Outcomes: the modules are directed towards the training of students at vocational as well as college level that envisage to work in middle management in the meat sector as well as for persons already working at this level in the meat sector. It will enable trainers/teachers at school/college level as well as in companies to get acquainted with the contents as well as the educational methodologies used.
