By comparing the individual portfolio of competences (including informally acquired abilities) with the newly developed competences exactly fitting ways to qualifications are opened – a significant precondition for comparibility and recognition of competences. The verification of competences will permit later on the acquisition of a Europe-wide acknowledged certificate. The integration of new modules into vocational training programmes of the countries participating depends on their conditions and needs. In their content the modules will concentrate on fields of learning and action specific to sport facilities.

Area of application
The sport and leisure industry is an area with a high growth potentail both for economy and labour market. The emphasis in operating these facilities lies on maintenance, care, modernization as well as event management, in fulfilling these tasks a consideration of the requirements of Agenda 21 does not take place to date in any of the partner countries.
The training of management and technical staff employed in facilities of sport and leisure often bears no relation to the special requirements of these facilities. Uptil now educational programs for the acquisition of specific competences and qualifications are missing in all European countries. Discussions with the project partners have shown that the need for an education on this topic is significant, in particular where the facilities dispose of the latest technology in building automation, ventilation, electronics and communication and assembly- and stage technology as well as where greens and outside constructions have to be maintained and mobility services need to be organized. Most facilities cannot translate the latest standards to be applied into action and increasing maintenance costs of the facilities as well as hightened expectations of the users as to quality of offers and ambiance require y thea new orientation, in particular because of cuts in public funding. Therefore in the field of a sustainable management of sport facilities a systematic offer of education and training is urgently needed fort he large number of those employed in sport facilities.
