Summary The project partnership aims to become a permanent learning network on problem-focussed education in agriculture within an international context and to assist in prepare students for a changing environment in the sector. NASEK will develop and test a three-month training programme in which students address the problems of a specific EU region through the use of virtual learning tools (to include a two-week visit). Previous Lingua projects have demonstrated that target students learn well in a practical situation. The project will thus design, develop and pilot a series of tools to include: a knowledge monitor (i.e. grid of employer skills requirements), an internet-based communication tool (connecting the electronic learning environments of educational establishments); an interactive web page (for information exchange between employers and students) and a series of individual learning packages (individual student guides to international problem-based learning). All products will be produced in EN on CD-Rom and for web-based use. Beyond the project period, a report will be published describing international problem-based learning for third parties. The partnership will further draft a standard learning agreement for EU educational institutes to allow ongoing delivery with the training method expected to become part of existing degree curricula. Publicity will target training organisations, agro-businesses, farming alliances and training policy/decision-makers and will extend to international development networks.
