Summary The ICT-TETRAPEEL project aims at improving the ICT content of teacher training and re-training programmes with particular reference to early years (primary) education. Building upon a number of previously funded Socrates-Comenius projects, the project will tackle one of the main barriers to increased digital education in schools, that is, the lack of knowledge and skills among teaching staff. The project will report on current needs, will recommend teaching/training approaches and will provide an assessment tool as regards quality ICT learning in schools. A series of products will be developed, tested and made available on-line, to include: a teacher training course (covering methods of teaching, ICT skills and practical training); a database of relevant software products (supported by comments on their applicability) and new software for use in early years teaching (to include teaching games, information CDs, web discovery exercises & photo e-mailing). All tools will be made available both on-line and on CD-Rom and in all partner languages. All participating educational college expect to integrate the end training course into existing teacher training curricula. The course and other supporting products will be made available to colleges that are currently members or associates of the European Teachers Education Network (across 12 Member States and a number of pre-accession countries) to enable these institutions to further market the products in their own countries. Additional dissemination of the results will rely upon existing international networks for educational guidance and international schools and upon the educational publisher 'Wolters Noordhof'. In considering longer-term commercialisation, the project will review both Intellectual Property Rights and product copyright within the project partnership.
