Summary Building upon a previously funded Leonardo da Vinci project, the CoastLearn project plans to extend and build upon the existing activities of national networks and to further establish a transnational network of experts in integrated coastal management (ICM) involving public bodies, business organisations and universities. Two new interactive, multimedia training modules will be developed, tested and added to the four existing modules (as developed by the previous project) with all modules being made freely available via the Internet. This development is expected to re-activate, build upon and extend the existing CoastLearn network. Project activities will comprise; establishment of an intranet service (via which the development of training modules will take place); hosting of a series of virtual workshops; creation of a database of ICM experts and discussions on training methodologies. A series of national relay agencies will be nominated in each partner country and a further key structure for the transnational network will be the Regional Seas programmes (Baltic Sea, Black Sea and Eastern Mediterranean) which will be connected to the national networks and to each during the third year. Products related to the internet-based training modules will be widely disseminated through partners continually growing networks, not only via the website but also via various professional and expert events. The transnational network and the project website will be promoted through dedicated project leaflets and publications and a regular project newsletter.
