Summary Who: Trainers who work with disadvantaged youths within vocational training. They work at institutions that are involved as local partners in the project SocInc (Social Inclusion through Education and Training) www.socinc.net which is carried out by six Eurocities partner cities: Berlin, Bologna, Copenhagen, Dublin, Glasgow and Malmö.What: The objective of the partnership lies within getting to know examples of best practice in the training of disadvantaged youths by having a close personal look at the projects, get new ideas which could be applied in their own countries or institutions. The institutions where the trainers work are either vocational schools for students with special needs, companies or other players in vocational training. The target group consists of specialists who dispose of special knowledge on how to teach disadvantaged youths. Of special interest will be also visiting companies that offer work placements or employment to disadvantaged students. Why: In European politics the decisiontakers are well aware of the fact that the percentage of disadvantaged youths in cities presents a big problem. There can be intents to enhance social inclusion through education. This task, however, is much more demanding than conveying vocational training to mainstream students. Besides, there are different aproaches as to what can be considered education. Trainers who work with this special trarget group have a spezial demand for exchange and incentives in order to be better prepared for their difficult tasks. However, most demanding is getting companies involved when it comes to tackling the problem. This is why the trainers should also visit companies. These companies should be aware that the inclusion of disadvantaged youths is also an issue in other European cities. When visitors from the partner cities visit these companies, these companies should feel awarded for their positive attitude.Where: The trainers should be able to have the choice to get to know educational institutions, non-profit companies that provide training and regular companies that provide work placements and jobs for disadvantaged youths and career guidance institutions in the SocInc-partner cities or rather the member cities of Eurocities, which form part of the EUROCITIES working group on “Education”. The SocInc-cities are: Bologna, Dublin, Glasgow, Copenhagen and Malmö. Other cities that are going to participate in the project will be Rotterdam, Budapest, Turin and Antwerp. This circle of cities can be enlarged by additional meetings of representatives of education in Warsaw, and Barcelona, Lyon, Helsinki or other interested cities.
