Form Sunday 6th of October to Sunday 13th of October 2002
On Monday I have a meeting with the headmaster of the school Mr. Jens Peter Christensen.
I thank him for having invited me over and explain our existing project to him. I also explain the dual educational system in Austria.
The Danish Vocational Education Training seems to be similar to ours. Students got to the vocational school for one or two years. After that they start working at a company for another two years. They finish their education with a special examination after the four years of training at school as well as in their companies. Students get a grant from the government if they are older than 18.
Mr. Christensen seems to be very open minded concerning future projects including an exchange of students. Berufsschule I and II in Ried are going to visit Aarhus in Sep. 2003. The school:
350 students a year, male and female, some of different nationalities (refugees), about 25 teachers, 2 headmasters.
School starts at 8.15 in the morning and usually finishes at 13.45.
The teachers are divided into two teams: each team has its own headmaster and there is one teacher within the team who is responsible for the lesson time tables. The teachers have to work together concerning the syllabus and the lesson preparations as well as the tests.
Number of lessons for one teacher (average): 22
Subjects: English, German, Accounting, Economics, Business Letters, Psychologie, IT
Each teacher teaches two different subjects.
The following days I visit English lessons and also German lessons where I talk to the students as a native speaker which definitely is a new experience for me.
