Summary Aim of the project is the development of a qualification programme consisting of two curricula: A) a training curriculum for accessibility experts and B) a training curriculum for usability testers. Target group for A) are persons who want to get further qualification as accessibility experts (e.g. architects, industrial designers, civil servants of public administrations, facility-, quality- and human resources managers,...). Target group for B) are people with learning, physical, psychic, visual or hearing disabilities who want to get a qualification as usability testers. Both groups will cooperate intensively when conducting a so called accessibility and usability evaluation in companies. The accessibility expert will act as a coordinator and surveyor and the usability tester will act as personally affected expert who is able to realise and describe barriers for his/her kind of disability at best. User of the results of project will be at first training institutes which can include this qualification into their training programmes. In the future the accessibility evaluation process will be available for enterprises, authorities and employee representatives as well as employers associations. People with disabilities will be offered new educational possibilities as well as the advantages of accessible enterprises. All products will be copiled in a handbook which can be downloaded from the project website as a .pdf.
Human Health and Social Work Activities
Professional, Scientific and Technical Activities
During the project process it got evident, that a certification of companies, that were evaluated was not an issue.
If a certification for the training, that is held on basis of the curricula, should be an aim (e.g. within a further project) will be an issue in the final partner meeting on the 19th and 20th of July 2007.
The training curriculum for usability testers was tested in a field trial within the project period in Austria and Spain. The field trial was held in special training institutions for people with disabilities (a´tempo in Austria and FEPAMIC in Spain, both are project partners).
At the end of the project the
qualification curriculum for accessibility experts as well as the training curriculum for usability testers including related evaluation instruments will be compiled in a handbook that will be downloadable in 5 languages from the project homepage (www.careers-without-barriers.org).
In the future these curricula will be available for all training institutions who want to train experts in the field of accessibility.
Many laws and directives in Europe begin to focus on the issue of accessibility and on the demand to assure accessibility in companies. Nevertheless there is a lack of usable instruments and curricula as well as trained experts in the field of accessibility.
